If I were Hilary's campaign, my first post convention ads would be a reprise of Lyndon Johnson's ad against Barry Goldwater - an atomic mushroom cloud and a picture of Trump. I'm still a registered republican, but this is the first time ever (48 years of voting) I will vote for the democratic candidate.

I would consider the performance of Mike Pence last night. That sounded to me like a speech of the Trump Administration's COO, Chief Operations Officer. He was not the attack dog that VPs have historically been. Newt appears to be slipping into the Chief of Staff role. Formulating tactical and strategic plans to help navigate through Washington's challenges.

Those two appear to be shaping and executing the strategic and tactical policy initiatives for Trump. He sets the broad vision and goal, they provide the effective plan for execution. I further suspect that they will shape the menu from which Trump will select the elements of his vision to most aggressively pursue.

Nothing set in stone of course. Time will tell if my assessment is accurate.

I would not bet on DT keeping "hands-off"
even if that is his intention -
which I would not bet on, either!

Totally agree Howard. My point was that he won't micro manage. Unless he micro manages, a large part of the agenda is actually under the control of others.

Where the administration goes is ultimately decided by the CEO-President. His officers select the best path to achieve the stated goals with the skill sets available and execute the plan to get there.

Peter,
please pardon me that I find your agreement less than total.

My points are that Trump is not predictable,
that a president finds very many temptations to intervene,
even to micro manage,
and I would not bet on which ones Trump would refuse,
ignore, or not even notice,
and which would bring him in shooting from the hip.

Be that as it may,
I deem that the most important issue of this election
is who will be appointed to the Supreme Court,
which will depend on who appoints them.

I despise and fear Justices chosen by the Federalist Society.
I expect to approve of Justices chosen by any Democrat.
I guess that your feelings differ from mine on this.

I Remember It Well

In October 1996, so late at night that it was early morning,
I was at a convenience story along with two other men,
the owner, and a tall customer older than I was then.
All three of us are white.

Tall Customer made three predictions:
1 Bill Clinton would be beaten for reelection by Bob Dole;
2 Within six months the Clintons would divorce;
3 Within a year both Clintons would be in jail.
As we now know, none of that happened.

For twenty-four years Republicans have been slandering the
Clintons. Most of their slanders have been completely wrong,
even nonsense. The rest were greatly exaggerated.

I do not believe these new stories either.
I think that Hillary Clinton will make an excellent President.

I would like to propose a theory:

Melania Trump is a spy. Here's why:

1. Though all of her press calls her Slovenian, at the time of her birth in 1970 Slovenia was not an independent country, but part of Communist Yugoslavia. Her father, Viktor Knavs, was a member of the Communist Party. Slovenia went independent and democratic in 1989, so she spent the first 19 years of her life under the Communist regime.

2. She started her modeling career at age 16, which would have brought her to the attention of the KGB because she would be traveling outside the Communist Bloc. The KGB routinely tasked travelers to foreign countries with espionage duties.

3. She attended the University of Ljubljana. Universities in Communist countries were indoctrination camps. She also claims to have a degree even though she dropped out.

4. Her status as a fashion model, with access to high social circles, would make her an ideal "honey trap". Her contract and visa to enter the US was arranged by Italian-born New Yorker Paolo Zampolli, who later walked away from a successful career in model management to take up real estate with (target) Donald Trump. Zampolli introduced her to Trump, who shortly after tried to get the presidential nomination of the Reform Party.

5. Trump has often reversed his position on issues, but he is famous for "speaking his own mind" and not consulting campaign managers. The most likely other person who could influence him to reverse positions is the woman who leads him around by his unit.

6. Trump has expressed admiration for former KGB agent and current Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose KGB duties included recruiting college students as agents.

7. The plagiarism controversy over Melania's speech copying Michelle Obama is a likely red herring to cover up her true role. She even hints at that in the speech when she said Trump would "never give up" and "never let you down". A sly wink at the way she rick-rolled the entire convention.

The long term plan, of course, is to rope in a man with the money, ego and gullibility to be persuaded to run for President, in order to put in place a First Lady who can pick his brain and pocket and transmit everything back to Putin's intelligence apparatus. If it sounds implausible, look up the Profumo Scandal.

In all past elections I tended to vote to protect ONLY the Republic and US Constitution. This meant usually my vote went to the lessor of two evils.

This time this important franchise distinction gets rather muddied. However, as bad as Trump is, he, (IMO) is slightly better than Queen Hillary.
