Came up with a list of ship names, ones that could exist in the future or might exist now, for a couple navies. What do you guys think?
Manticore: HMS Helen Zilwicki HMS Jonas Adcock HMS James Bowie Webster HMS Sebastian D'Orville HMs Theodosia Kuzak HMS Yawata Crossing HMS Honor Harrington (again) HMS Queen Elizabeth III HMS Hamish Alexader/HMS Earl White Haven HMS Murdoch Alexander/HMS Earl White Haven (I figure that First Space Lords and First Lords of Admiralty get ships named after them, if they're good/respected enough. And Earl White Haven might be named for Hamish and his dad both). HMS Horace Harkness HMS Aivars Terekhov (Harkness and Terekhov because I figure that anyone who gets the PMV will have at least once ship named after them). HMS Thomas Caparelli HMS Sonja Hemphill/Baroness Low Delhi HMS Francine Mourncreek/Countess (or Baroness) Mourncreek Haven: RHN Constituion RHN Restoration RHN Javier Giscard (you know Eloise personally christened this one). Torch: RTN Freedom RTN Liberator/Liberty RTN Emancipator/Emancipation RTN Independence RTN Abraham Lincoln RTN Blaze |

Keep in mind that you generally only name ships after people if they're dead - so this better be a *really* far future list of names if you don't want half the forum out for your blood!
Anyway, if we've got the HMS Yatawa Crossing, then you've got to add the HMS Black Rock. And both of those ships darn well better get to be part of the final task force which takes Darius. _______________________________________________________

How about naming the lead ship of the next SD (P) Class HMS Vengeance. |

Since the next SD(P) class is a multi-power effort, call the first four ships Alliance(RHNS), Jack McBryde(BSDFS), Yawata Crossing(HMS) and Blackbird(GSNS). Beowulf might go "Who the heck is Jack McBryde?" but once they get his story, they'll like it. |

My idea for the first ship launched from the new shipyards was HMS Phoenix --------------------------------------------------

I've had a weakness for a long time to see a ship named the Dentless. Captained by the most cautious officer in the navy.

Prior Ships Names
HMS Madrigal -- ought to be on the List of Honor ever since HotQ. HMS Hawkwing -- same thing from HoE a new HMS Fearless, lead ship of the post- Sag-C class HMS Intransigent, perhaps not on the List of Honor, but as Alistair McKeon's last ship. I'd promote the tug name which saved much of Sphinx to a warship name. There's a ship that NEEDS to be on the list of honor. As a class... I like the idea of naming some light cruisers or upcoming Roland II's (not sure how those would be different, but we'll assume it'd be a variant) with tree cat names, but figure that might make those clans a target of the MAlign so maybe not. In the future HonorVerse, I'm thinking the PMV precludes those folks being named, as their memory will be at Saganami Island forever. Book or Recent deaths associated with Honor or battle fatalities. Instead of the HMS Helen Zilwicki (confusing, because of her daughter), the Manticoran name for the battle where her squadron saved the freighters HMS Venizuelos way in the future... HMS Tremaine (after Scotty has passed, WAY in the future) ---------------------
All my posts are YMMV, IMHO, and welcoming polite discussion, extension, and rebuttal. This is the HonorVerse, after all |

Replying to the part of your post that I bolded: Having received the PMV is not a disqualifier for having a ship named after you. Consider the very first recipient of the PMV: Commodore Edward Saganami. -------------------------------------------------------------

Agreed. I'm thinking more of "current HonorVerse" characters than the historical ones. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to naming some of the SD(p)s of the couple hundred years in the future after Honor. ---------------------
