I finished the series re-read. The Rayno character strikes me as even more pivotal then before. He believes in the responsibility of the Inquisition. He believes in maintaining the established social order, especially in Harchong. The CoGA as the primary authority is essential to that order.

I believe he now recognizes that Clyntahn subordinates the Inquisition's responsibilities to the acquisition of personal power. That Clyntahn further uses the Inquisition's ability to suspend the Archangels' laws during jihad to subordinate even those Laws to his acquisition of power.

Rayno is not amoral. He believes that morality is defined by the commonality of purpose the actor has with the Archangels and the Writ. The Inquisition's role no matter how distasteful is moral so long as Inquisitors' purpose coincides with the Writ. It seems apparent to me that such is not true of Clyntahn. It strikes me as probable that Rayno agrees.

That's a lot of re-reading! I've read every book at least twice. I will probably wait until the temple has been defeated to re-read the entire serries. It will be interesting to see what Rayno does in the next book.

I'm in the middle of re-listening to the series again. Currently early in A Mighty Fortress.

Of course, I'd like some snippets (of Safehold or Honorverse) to tide me over, too. :D

One thing that's odd, though... The description of the book has been pulled from both the Amazon and MacMillan web sites.

I agree that Rayno is pivotal and will not be surprised if he does the deed.

I opted to re-read the Honor series first because that next book is due out first. Sometime before the end of July I think I'll start the Safehold series.
