For what it's worth - and I know it should probably be in the Honor Harrington forum but we've mentioned the near simultaneous release of both of David's new works in this thread as well...
Baen shows Shadow of Victory available for sale in November... And Baen's publishing schedule has never let me down (at least not yet) http://www.baen.com/bookdata/schedule Keeping my fingers crossed on both counts! |

I'm not impressed with Baen's publishing schedule!
The link in the previous post leads to a schedule that says that THE CARDINAL VIRTUES will appear in August, 2016, but I bought a copy of this book months age at Barnes & Noble!!! Apparently their publishing schedule is also fiction, as well as the books in their list. Philip Stanley |

The mass-market paperback will be published in August, the hardcover and eBook were published last year. (probably in August, but I didn't check.) Baen, like many publishers don't publish the paperback until a year after the Hard-bound. (note the prices for books on the publishing schedule: $7.99 is a paperback edition, $20+ is hardbound.) .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

Baen said August 2016 and on June 10, 2016 you complain that you are "not impressed with Baen's printing schedule" because you bought the books months ago??? Some folks would complain if we hang them with a golden rope. Oh wait 1634 books are about time travel so I guess the book is a few hundred years late? Just my 2 ₡ worth

I just got an email from Amazon.Com informing me of new SciFi and ATSoT was on the list (with cover photo) when I clicked it I found the offer to get the kindle version for a few $$ & ¢¢... I guess this is only available for people who have also purchased the hard bound copy.
I think this kind of offer would sell more hard bound books for the many of us who like the feel of real paper and the weight of a good book on our lap. Just my 2 ₡ worth

Everyone in this forum is making a big deal out of the title of the book or the release date of the book. However, for me, when I went to Amazon, they did have a picture of the cover art, and the art work is what I found to be very interesting and important.
Featured very prominently in the art work is a large hydraulic cylinder that appears to be attached to a large space transport of some kind. I'm assuming that it's connected to a troop hatch of some kind which I would also assume is all part of an assault shuttle. If so, then it would appear that someone has figured out how to disable all those orbiting satellites that destroy technology. An assault shuttle would, I think, seem to be a "technology" that would activate a still functioning satellite. So, if all that is true, I definitely expect that the church is in for a resounding defeat no matter what armies they try to put into the field. Things are going to change rapidly I believe. It will be interesting to find out how they disable those satellites. -

I think you are taking too much from the cover. As has been pointed out before, covers rarely have much to do with the content of the book. The artists rarely get to see the book when commissioned to create the art. As far as I recall only 2 covers in the series resemble the content of the books so far, so were I you, I would not get my hopes up too high. Additionally, even if the OBS has been disabled, were they to use the assault transport to move troops to the general area of the temple, it is unlikely that the troops would be very happy with the evidence of forbidden technology - they would think it created by demons (which, on Safehold, it was) and would probably rebel at it. The truth has not yet been revealed nor has it been accepted except for a limited audience. --
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

In fact, isolated Terran Federation level technology does not seem to set off the Orbital Bombardment System. In the case of the recon skimmers I can accept that is because they are heavily stealthed, but I really can't see the Air-van now Air bus which has been used in the past couple of books falling into that category. Evidently the surviving Archangels didn't want their own vehicles/depots shot at by the OBS. The problem about the open use of the assault shuttle is actually that it would raise much harder questions about perception and the attitude of the public, both within and outside the EoC, to the leaders of Charis since it would give clear evidence of abandonment of the Proscriptions and being 'in league with Shan-Wei'. However it is only a cover illustration and they have a very poor record on accuracy, for reasons amply discussed elsewhere on the forum. I won't hold my breath expecting to find the scene depicted actually occurring in the book. OTOH I do think publication of the cover has to be a good sign regarding appearance of the book on schedule. If the book weren't coming out in October TOR Macmillan would already know about that and I don't think they would be raising expectations if that were the case. |

Well, when stealth devices were sent to orbit and got anywhere near those satellites they were blown up. So,.... there is a threshold somewhere. I would hate to bring out my one and only assault shuttle, regardless of the circumstances regarding religion, unless I was sure it would not get shot at by those satellites. So, for me, the cover art says that the satellites status has changed in some way. What way, I don't know. Maybe if the church is revealed to be the fraud that it is, maybe then the shuttle can be brought out with out a religious "distraction." -

I'd just point out that there is a rather significant difference between something in atmosphere, or even doing a suborbital hop, and something heading for or near the OBS in terms of automatic risk calculations and classifications. Admittedly, there may well be something in the OBS's sensors that will react to energy weapons fire, but that another issue. |
