There's a big difference between "nobody on the flag bridge should have the authorizations to the reactor controls," and "no terminal on the flag bridge can access the reactor controls."

Computer security is a specialization; the average programmer doesn't know enough about it to reliably create secure programs. If ce did, there would be a lot fewer SQL injection and HTML injection exploits.

And you start out having lost if you hire bad people to write your code. And if MA agents are writing the SLN's code...

The Mandarins know the GA is right about the MAlign, they still feel they have to pursue the war because to back down would mean a wave of revolts and they still don't realize how utterly overwhelmed their fleet is.

Now, a public release is another matter but they would simply trot out the standard explanation--that the GA data is faked.

Actually, they still don't believe the GA. Certainly, in A Rising Thunder Abruzzi describes the whole Mesan Alignment as a fabrication concocted by Zilwicki & Cachat that they had managed to sell to Pritchard who then sold it to Elizabeth. Because their automatic reaction is to lie about any situation & they are so wrapped up in their own world view & their belief that, like them, any politician must be as cynical as they are & must automatically be lying that they cannot recognise when someone is telling them the simple unvarnished truth. They seem incapable of considering any other point of view but their own.

I wonder what they will do when evidence from Third Parties proving the existence of the Mesan Alignment comes out? Certainly, if an analyst like al-Fanudahi can work out its existence even before the GA's announcement then there must be others who have. Also there is Yucel's recording of the conference that is now in the possession of Mike Henke. That proves there was collusion between Mesa & Frontier Security in the Monican crisis that set this whole crisis off. Also there is the sneak attack on Manticore. They do not for one minute seem to consider who carried that out.

After the nanotech assassination of Rampanjet they know the GA is right about the MAlign.

Actually the evidence is that, so far, only Daud al-Fanudahi believes it. Certainly Kingsford referred to Rajampet's suicide & the actions of the Mandarins show that they believe it was suicide.

Do they? The little group gathered in the catacombs knows it, but that data hasn't filtered up to the higher levels. The only reaction I've seen at higher levels seems to be "why didn't he do it sooner."

Amazing. The Mandarins got something right.
