Well, I had a confirmed order for Web of the Trident.

An order that wasn't filled, and never will be. [That's why you deal with people who don't bill you until they ship the product.] I'm not at all concerned that AtSoT will meet that fate, but you never know for sure until it's in your hands.

I have confirmation on my order.

Batrrnes and Nobel has a zoomable picture.

The building certainly does not look like The Temple. It looks more pedestrian. Perhaps a Border State or Dohlar fortress.

Thanks for the link.

Artists rarely have any unique insights into the story they're doing the art for. The contract describes the scene, and the artist creates a work that will hopefully draw a shoppers eye and sell more books. Look at how laughably incorrect many of the earlier bridge scene covers were on HH novels.

I'd like to think the cover art indicates the book might be on track for a release this year, but I just don't see how it's possible given what we know. The artist was likely commissioned some time ago to create the cover art for the projected release date. It wouldn't have anything to do with when the story itself was turned in (or will be turned in.)

I'm presuming that if the book was really on schedule, we'd have already started seeing snippets or will be seeing them shortly. It is not really that long to the end of October. At one one per week, it would allow for less than 30 sbippets.

That more or less implies that we are probably looking at a 2017 publication date.

As the B&N page gives the page count of the book as 608 pages, the book must be finished (or very close to finished) otherwise the page count would not yet be known.

Amazon is also showing a 25 October 2016 date. It now has a picture of the cover but no description/summary of the book. I, like all the addicts here, would like, no love, to see snippets. :) But, my stack of unread books by my lazy-boy is about a foot high. In addition, she who must be obeyed has big plans this summer. As a result I wish RFC/MWW and his family all the best and will see you (figuratively) in September (as the song goes).

Interesting...

I'll confess I've never seen this situation before. I've been at least a somewhat involved fan of DW's work since the days of the V1 Baens Bar in '98, and even when Himself was completely slammed by multiple deadlines he's always come on and announced when a book draft was finished and sent off.

There's also the issue that the AtSoT date is pretty close to the date for the next HH book, and Baen/Tor usually take steps to keep that from happening.

It is possible (I'm just speculating here) that TOR has asked RFC to not snippet this time, or make any announcements about AtSoT. As far as two books coming out at the same time, both companies are trying to hit the Christmas market, and I think that they have concluded that the advantages of having a new DW book available for Christmas out weigh the disadvantages of having two DW books published at the same time.

I'd say that they pretty much have that one right - us fanatics would buy both immediately, even if they were published on the same day - leading to a three day binge of reading both without sleeping, eating, working, etc. With a week between - a mere bagatelle. Plenty of time to finish AtDoT before SoV arrives.

Totally agree. I would look to be re-reading them over Christmas.

I remember when somebody told me about Lord of the Rings in 1962. I got it out of the library at 9:45 on a Saturday morning (because that was when the library opened), went completely incommunicado for the rest of the day, finished it at 5:00 p.m., and went out and bought it. I don't know how many times I've re-read it since – I lost count years ago.

And generally speaking, at some point I re-read the Safehold series every time it is added to.

We haven't heard from RFC since 15th November, why would you imagine we will get snippets in the way we have before?

This is telling me that he has been pushing the rate of his productions so... why not think that he has them on time.
