Amazon has just sent me an email stating that the publication date for Shadow of Victory will be 1st November 2016. Make of that what you will, but my take is that they must have had some fairly hard information to send that out. I don't yet consider it a certainty, though.

The November 1 date has been out there for a while. The last I've heard (and I'm way out on the grapevine for that kind of info) is that David is still working on final edits. If he's sent in the book, that could be a reason for Baen to confirm the date. I'd expect more information at Manticon in a couple of weeks.

Hi. Lonnnggg time HH reader; new member here.

I presume the date published on Amazon is correct. It seems unlikely that Amazon would get something like a publication date wrong.

My real question is why Amazon lists Shadow of Victory as book #14 instead of #15, as it is on the Honorverse Wiki http://honorverse.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page.

While I don't think this is a huge issue, I do think it could lead to some confusion for readers (particularly ones new to the Honorverse), readers who want to ensure they are reading all the books, in the correct order.

Does anyone know if there's any procedure in place to address this?

The confusion started with Shadow of Saganami and Crown of Slaves being partial spin-offs that ended up being wound back into the mainline. It's also been alleged that A Rising Thunder and Shadow of Freedom started as one book and got split into two due to length.

Everything I've seen so far indicates that the separation is being ended with Shadow of Victory, with the cliffhangers of A Rising Thunder, Shadow of Freedom and Cauldron of Ghosts being picked up and merged from now on.

The best advice is to read by order of published date, although this doesn't apply to the Treecat or Manticore Ascendant books as part of the whole. Those can be read by their published order before, alongside or after the main series(and its hang-ons).

First Tuesday of the month. Looks right.

Amazon's 'hard information' is the publishing schedule they get from Simon & Schuster, which runs months ahead of the schedule Baen puts up [for several reasons]. S&S, of course, gets the info from Baen.

Yep, it's there along with the HCs out to next January. You can look for yourself, if you want: https://catalog.simonandschuster.com/De ... =&find=&a=

S&S actually prints and distributed the books. Baen gets X slots per month.

I understand, and I personally have read all the books in order, but I'm thinking of people who are new to the Honorverse. I do think the discrepancy should be resolved. IOW, get rid of the confusion. I should also say I'm only talking about the main Honor stream, not any of the offshoots, anthologies, etc.

I think part of the reason it really needs to be resolved is because there are 2 sources claiming different things; things that sound authoritative. The Wiki says 'this' and Amazon says 'that'. I don't think the confusion is good for the franchise.

Most don't consider the Wiki "authoritative". Anything found there should be further researched.

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

The trouble is that, as far as most of us are concerned, there is only one series, which includes the anthologies, the Talbot quadrant stories and the Torch stories. If you don't read everything, you're missing a whole lot. Like four Honor Harrington stories that precede On Basilisk Station as well as a two general background articles.

Anything that chops it up into four pieces isn't good for new readers. Although it might be less intimidating.

at least five stories. 7 if a small appearance at the end counts

the adoption of nimitiz, her middy cruise, avalanche rescue, 2 deployments to silesa, (hawking and CA fearless) and the small appearance at the end of the second "charles" story and the even smaller one when Nimitiz and Samantha decide that things are going to change
