The Grayson Protector stays male-only, but the Mayhew Steading itself might start passing through female hands. However, the Steadholders had rammed through a provision prior that while female children may now inherit Steadholderships, all current Heirs would not be pushed back, regardless of older female siblings being present or not. That explains why Abigail won't inherit her father's steading, unless all of her brothers, and father all get assassinated and she's the only one left, which could happen since she's out-system all the time with the Navy.

All Steading have to pass through their immediate next set of heirs, which with Manticoran/modern medical treatments available, will be anywhere from 40 to 200+ years before the first non-Harrington female Steadholders appears. Depending on just how many of the 'current' heirs managed to be young enough to accept even first-gen prolong

depends on the wording and interpretation. I would read it as just the "hair" to the steadership won't change, but second in line might be his older sister, not that all male children and brothers first.

I don't know about that - "Hair"style change is inevitable - and even with prolong, anyone's "hair" will eventually gray and thin - and you never know, he might go bald early

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

We know, with almost 100% certainty, that Burdette Steading will be the first Steading with a female Key, if you exclude Harrington Steading.

After Lord Burdette was killed, dueling against Honor acting as the Protector's Champion, his son became the Key holder, which was the first known Steadholder turnover, since prolong and modern medicines made their way onto Grayson. Given Grayson birth sex skewing, it is likely, even probably, there is a female heir waiting to take over Burdette Steading.

Which must be rather rage inducing to the Conservative Keys, that one of their leading champions, will be one of the first to have a female Key to join Honor.

We don't know the age of the current Steadholder Burdette Clarence Burdette. As to the only other Steadholder transfer Travis Muller is in his late twenties or early thirties.

There is no reason not think that Elizabeth, given how she came to the throne, hasn't spent a good amount of her time grooming Roger for his eventual rule. Although the book hasn't shown it, I would think she is probably doing the same thing to him that Avars Terekov is doing to Helen with his impromptive situational awareness questions.

As far as Haven is concerned, given the fact the Manticore Treaty had so much support, if something were to suddenly happen to Eloise, her party could win by sympathy vote alone. Younger and his cohorts would have a snowball's chance of winning and very likely would be suspected, if not implicated in her death.
