My impression is that fleet admirals are rotated through different commands. For him to get the ambassadorship of Haven he needs a little diplomatic experience so,
Silesia. He replaces Sarnow who should be relieved by now. This gives him a chance to learn more about Apollo from more than just simulations. Also allows the admiralty to tap into his tactical awareness. Higgins gets to handle the various diplomatic functions in Silesia, which presumable has settled down a little under Sarnow but still would have various fires to put out. |

Is Admiral Higgins being badmouthed in this thread? For Shame!
He took a hard decision that preserved the lives and fighting effectiveness of his command whilst denying the value (and technology) of the unfinished SDPs to the RHN. The blame to be laid for the destruction of trillions has to be laid upon High Ridge and Janacek. |

I'm rather taken with the ideas of him becoming either Ambassador to Haven (mostly because I want him to hook up with Admiral Chin) or relieving Sarnow to return to Fleet Command under his one-time Flag Captain.

No, we're debating where he's likely to be sent, on generally good terms We all know the only people who trashed Higgins was the High Ridge government. But he's still a (senior) Admiral that so far as we know, no longer has a command. He was relieved from Home Fleet, but he's not in Eighth Fleet with Honor, Ninth Fleet with Sarnow (we think?), nor is he with Michelle and Tenth Fleet. He's just vanished, which is why I think he might have been part of the tech team that went out to Bolthole, or some other new Haven post. He's totally vanished out of Manticoran space, and has yet to reappear. |

It's not "bad-mouthing" that I was doing...it's more along the lines of Napolean's supposed question about a general: “I know he's a good general, but is he lucky?” Higgins' luck has not been of the good variety. What would you chance him with next?! |

Sorry, the good Admiral will be unavailable for all of the above. He's been reassigned to my bedroom for the foreseeable future.
In all seriousness (because he is my baby and I love him and I want to hug him forever and also if anyone talks smack about him I will hurt that person with an angry treecat), Ambassador to Haven sounds like a frankly splendid idea to me. I could even get on board with him romancing Genevieve Chin, since I haven't come up with a character who isn't me with whom I'd prefer him. And (hopefully - oh please dear God there are only so many times Weber can destroy that man's soul) given the current state of affairs between Manticore and Haven, no surprise attacks are likely to come calling. However, I think he'd be best handed over to run ATC/the Crusher. As has been previously pointed out, not even Honor herself has been put in a tougher spot. He should quite frankly be held up to the Navy both present and future as the ultimate example of an officer who did the right thing in unimaginably difficult circumstances, and also as a reminder that sometimes it doesn't matter how good you are when everything in the universe is conspiring against you. (But I'd still prefer him to be reassigned to my bed.) ~*~

Perhaps he has been granted some (well-earned) leave.

No, as far as we know, Higgins is still in command of Home Fleet. Honor was placed in overall tactical command of Grand Fleet because she has the respect trust and confidence of all the players involved. Remember Honor is a admiral and major political figure in two of the four members of the Grand Alliance and has major political connections in a third. Also Grand Fleet was given that name so that RHN forces wouldn't be under Home Fleet tactical command and spike the guns of Pricharts critics in the RH congress.

I'm still waiting to see Mr. Weber to just put you in the books rose, some until-now unspoken of Commodore or thereabouts, with a good track record, and so on and so forth. Let's just get it over with, rose belongs in the books so she can make mad, mad love to Higgins and go be Manticoran/Haven straddling officers. *flees into some dark hole like a Sphinxian chipmunk* |
