Given his "luck" and the fact he has been associated with the destruction of uncounted trillions, what command would you give Admiral Higgins when his term as Admiral, Home Fleet ends?

Seconded to Solarian Home Fleet?

There aren't any field commands that wouldn't be viewed as a demotion. Likely his next assignment(if not retirement) would be as a Space Lord, in keeping with the RMN's practice of rotating senior personnel between combat and administrative commands.

Beach Patrol or same as Admiral Kimmel's command in 1942.

It depends on what the admiralty has in mind the could transfer him to form a new strike fleet like eighth fleet or they could do what they did with Webster. Make him ambassador to Haven or New Potsdam.

I doubt that they will form a new attack fleet unless they split 8th fleet in two, otherwise where will they get the hulls. Would not surprise me if they haven't already stolen some ships from 8th fleet to balance things out.

I think ambassador would be a good place for him. I would be willing to bet that there is already an ambassador at New Potsdam, but that still leaves two possibilities.

First is haven.

Second, presuming that beaowulf succeeds from the SL, they will need an ambassador as well.

They very likely already have a few, given the close relationship between Manticore and Beowulf.

I'd look to give him BuPlan, Crusher, or Saganami Island if he wants to stay in uniform. The Queen has already given him a hug and announced to the universe that it's not his fault - so the official policy will be just that.

He's proven that he can make the insanely hard decision when necessary and carry it through, and just keep working the unimaginable problem in front of him when it happens. He needs to be shown as an example of someone who made the hard call, who soldiered through on the toughest day. If you punish someone like that, or remove their command, forthcoming officers will hesitate to make the call, they will double think every decision, and they will allow themselves to get caught in doubt, instead of working the problem.

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

I'm with the idea Higgins will be sent to be Manticore's Ambassador to Haven. Both sides are fully aware he'll make the hard choices that are for the best results in a pinch. The Queen's set the policy nobody is to hold him accountable for Grendlesbane, and unless he goes to take the Crusher over, there isn't really many places he can go in uniform. All the various Lord and Space Lord positions are filled by other trusted, and generally better bodies such as Givens, Caparelli, Cortez, Hemphill, etc.

And Beowulf's probably already had an unofficial ambassador for years, given the 'close relations' between Manticore and Beowulf, he just didn't have plenipotentiary authorization. Especially with the Queen having been less than a day round-trip away for any meaningful decisions away.

So in descending order, I figure Higgins will get:
1) Ambassador to Haven
2) Crusher
3) Saganami Island, Commanding Officer
4) Potential replacement for a Space Lord, in the event medical problems arise, and he's not already out-system.
