mark, at this point you're literally reiterating every single point of discussion that were brought up. Yours are not new arguments, it would be a good idea for you to read up on the discussion before trying to sell your ideas as new.
Please check out these topics: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7063 viewtopic.php?f=1&t=5494 Yes, I know. They're unbelievably long threadnaughts. But within them, you will find every argument you've made here, and every counterargument against them. |

I have skimmed some of that material. I do not have time to do more. Even these comments are only possible because I have completed final changes to a couple of thesis chapters, I am in a gap, awaiting more comments from my supervisor. Someone above said or implied that the topsides and bottoms of SLN SD actually were lightly armoured. The text does not allow for that: "She wanted no misconceptions about what those capital ship-weight energy weapons could do to the unarmoured topsides and bottoms of the Solarian ships-of-the-wall." No part of an SD is unarmored - the very framework of an SD and every internal bulkhead is part of the armoring scheme. The top and bottom, however do not carry the main armor bands found on the sides or the hammer heads. As was pointed out earlier by another poster, remember the fusion plant changeout on the Nike in SVW - that was a Battlecruiser and it took WEEKS to cut through the "unarmored" top of the ship to get to the Fusion plant. In this case, "unarmored" is a term relative to the main armor of the ship, just like a superstructure is "unarmored" compared to the main belt or turret facings of a classic 20th century Battleship, even though it was usually better armored than most CL's armor. The top of an Honorverse SD is still as tough as the main belt on some Honorverse CAs or BCs, though there is more hardware mounted up there outside the armor which will be susceptible to soft hits. ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |

Actually, Harold said nothing of the sort; everything you quoted was Theemile's reply to me. You sort of ignored my point that Nuncio already has space-born capability, the just need to expand and Manticore is providing LAC squadrons and LAC basing to do just that. They are providing it by shipping in prefab LAC bases at a manpower cost of a couple of dozen merchant spacers and some training cadre with modern LACs. .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |
