Next Great Ruler - Manticore, Haven, Grayson ======================================== Manticore Bracket for a moment [who] is next in line for succession to the Manticoran throne. Who do you consider to be the best [potential] next Queen of Manticore - in case of Elizabeth's untimely death? Or, do you think the next in line for the throne is most likely the best for the Crown? (I'm counting on someone to provide the line of succession. I can't seem to find that post. Thanks in advance. Also, can someone due to succeed, pass the succession on to someone immediately next in line, that they may feel more worthy, i.e., could Elizabeth have passed should she have been so compelled? And who would it have fallen to? Republic of Haven Same question. Who would be more likely able to handle the reigns of the Republic, should Eloise meet with an untimely death? Again, bracketing [who] may actually be elected. Grayson Same question. It's much trickier with Grayson. It seems that the wrong Protector could shake the entire alliance apart. And slowly kill most of Benjamin's progress. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

The next queen of Manticore will be "Queen Consort Rivka" because the next ruler of Manticore will be King Roger III(?)
Elizabeth's brother would have been King if Elizabeth abdicated. Since Manticore is largely based on the UK, Abdication is probably possible.
The Succession is also fairly rigid in Grayson. Benjamin's son is the next protector and Benjamin's brother is next -- the Protector is the only Key still restricted to Male only inheritance, IIRC. I'm not sure whether that covers the Mayhew Stedding as well, but I think Benjamin's niece (if any) could inherit there.
Whoever Eloise appointed to Secretary of State will be interim President if she dies in office, but IIRC her death would automatically trigger a special election. Haven is the only place where there is any question about who the next ruler(s) will be. There is textev that Gustav Anderman distrusts republics because the line of succession -- and therefore foreign policy -- is unpredictable over any significant time and can change at the whim of the "Mob." He's got a point. .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

That depends about the splatter around the untimely death of the persons in question. Afaik, regarding Manticore, Elizabeths son Roger would be the first in line; after that her daughter Joanne. Should both be dead, too, her brother Michael, and then it would be the turn of one Michelle Henke, Countess Gold Peak ... - as long as Roger doesn't have kids suited to the throne. If I remember correctly, the medical and psychological checks to make sure of that will be done if the child in question is 4 or 5 years old (based on the Old-Earth-Calendar) Regarding Haven ... that's quite difficult and depends a lot of the political powerbalance in New Paris at the time of Pritchards death. If Pritchards Party/Coalition can remain in power, than I would think, her Secretary of State could be a good choice. Or her Secretary of Justice (Sorry, both names are just not in my mind, but I think you know to whom I refer) In Grayson ... 1st in line is Benjamins son, after that his brother. Should both be dead, too, it remains to be seen who of the male members of the Mayhew-Clan can assemble the most support. Benjamins daughters are legally excluded from the succession of the Protectorate. |

Ok, a nit pick the Manticorain line of succession is Crown Prince Roger then Princess Joanna then Prince Michael then Princess Caitren then Countess Michelle. On Grayson line succession, it currently stands as Bernard then Lawrence then Michael. Michael would serve as regent to both Bernard or Lawrence until the reach their majority and probably serve as advisor for several years afterwards. |

Though if Michael and Judith were to have any biological children, they'd be ahead of Caitrin Winton-Henke and Michelle Henke. |

true and i'm sure mike henke is all for those extras. honor's parents show that women can have children 50 years apart if they got prolong early enough.

Judith has a biological child with Michael - that's Ruth Winton. And Ruth is not in the succession for the throne, so she can play spook for Her Mousety Queen Berry Zilwicki of Torch. I assume you refer to Roger and Rivka - but as I said already, the children of them are only in the line of succession after the medical/psychological checks; so, not for the next 5 to 6 years (depending on the birthdate of Rogers and Rivkas first child). |

This assumption is not correct because Judith is NOT Micheal's daughter. Ruth was pregnant with Judith when she and the other women escaped from Masada (pre The Honor of the Queen). Ruth was adopted by William when he married Judith but by law Ruth is specifically excluded from succession to the throne of Manticore. |

"Ruler" is the one word available that is most applicable to them all, rather than... Queen or Protector. I don't get the strong ruler type vibe from Roger. He's a strong Winton, of course, but I don't get the feeling that he would have been as good for Manticore, had he been the one who was handed the reigns at that time, instead of Elizabeth. He doesn't strike me as having any mettle like the Soul of Steel. I have mixed feelings about Joanna, but Michael seems to have the temperament and personality. Yet all we know is what textev supplies. Michelle, OTOH, would be medium-rare steak perfect! Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Elizabeth's kids have had so little screen time that making any real judgement about ability is hard.
Micheal winton has had slightly more but still not heaps. a lot of his character could be put down to the sudden loss of his father coupled with lots of time in the RMN. roger seems a nice enough bloke but he is living in the shadow of 2 great monarch's. His mother the woman known as Soul of Steel who has seen manticore though the worst the peeps had to throw at them through 2 wars and his grandfather/namesake, who saw what was to come and despite all the roadblocks from those who couldn't (more accurately wouldn't) see what was obvious started the effort to turn the RMN from a large collection of ships meant for commence protection into what is now proving itself to be the most dangerous navy in the entire galaxy. not an easy thing i'm sure. while he may wear the crown in time (depending upon how long she lives we may end up with a situation similar to real life where upon the death of QEII there are questions as to weather Prince Charles will take the crown for any length or time or if he will pass it straight on.) I suspect a lot of his strength will come from rivka. even with how little we see of her I can see a lot of Elizabeth in her makeup, though hopefully without the temper. |
