If Operation Janus involves enough rebellions, especially in systems far away from GA control, they could pull it off, if nothing else because the RMN won't have enough hulls. It'll also make a good cover for the Renaissance Factor.

That said, Manticore will try to assist every rebellion it can. And this could be just the moment to take advantage of the numeric strength of the RHN.

I don't think they would be able to do the operation janus to far from areas the manties are in. Get far enough away and even the most fanatical are not going to truly buy that the manties will be able to swoop in and save them simply due to distances involved. Stuff in and around their spheres of influance sure but it can be that far afield or it would be totally implausible.

Once the manties roll into a few of these flare ups they are going to be able to get news on other freedom fighter activities on other planets so it should be reasonably easy to get an idea where firebrand was at play and where to go to help out.

I'm rather hoping that firebrand will be caught and provide information about his activities, and as much as he knows about other operatives activities.

Spreading operation Janus to targets outside the Talbott sector would be benificial to the Alignment and the RF.
Doing it in Talbott had the several advantages:
)
Making it possible to paint a bunch of it as the Evil Manticorian Empire doing what OFS has actually been doing for centuries and work at discrediting Manticore in public opinion
)
Destabilizing local OFS Protectorates and client systems to drain and distract OFS/ FF from dealing with other problems. Killing off trained OFS spacers and troops (Intervention Battalions), plus the possibility of destroying SLN - particularly those much more effective and experienced crews and ships in FF- units weakend SLN/SL
)
Cuts back on both sides of the forces on those planets- the governments/transtellars & local resistance groups- which pull the systems more easily into the RF (when the RF gets into the area and can come to arrangements with the systems).
) The inability of OFS/FF and then BF to effectively deal with "revolts" and "terrorism" undermines confidence in both and the League Government. Ending a revolt or "terror campaign" by obliterating a large number of cities on any given planet may stop the revolts but at massive cost in life and property. The Alignment doesn't care about either, it wants access to the social and ethical structure of the systems to remake them in it's own formats. The -mostly- dictatorships or corporate satrapies that grow under OFS and friends tend to look at as at worst just a cost of doing business and "regrettable" collateral damage to return to iron fisted control and their own power & wealth.

)
Setting a Janus program into systems elsewhere around the boarders of SL space further disburse the military and political assets of the SL. It also cultivates the image and impression of incompetence in dealing with these mostly home-grown problems even if there are "outside agitators" providing aid to the rebel groups. It does let the Alignment (and shortly specifically the RF) be able to paint the existing or prior governments in question as repressive and brutal regimes that buy the willing participation of SLN units and the OFS to kill people who are only resisting tyranny.

Heck we could even see another emergence -in the story line- of a PRH and a variation of Manticore on much smaller scale that truly are both manuvering for territory and nipping at OFS clients or potential clients. We have seen some of the Manticore activities like this in short stories and PRH is clearly painted this way in the main books.

Ok, some food for thought? Janus is the Roman God of doorways passages transitions beginning and endings.

Now we all know that all MA operations have meanings in their names beyond just the name of an operation like Op Oyster Bay or Houdini or Onion or Rat Catcher.

Now what could be the meaning of operation Janus?

Janus is also portrayed as having 2 faces, so it could be one face is the MA and the other face is the RF

Here in Germany there is a market.
My wifes E-Book reader, its called Tolino, supports Epub, PDF, RTF.
At our public libraries you can get also lots of EBooks on loan! 20€ a year. But never for a Kindle.

Ratchatcher and Houdini I understand. What is the significance of "Oyster Bay" other than a codeword?

Janus could be the beginning of the end for the League and the rise of the Detweiler plan.

Oyster Bay was decoded as a code for Pearl Harbor.

Oysters contain Pearls and Bays contain Harbors.

That's really not going to make much difference in the larger market. Dedicated e-readers (as opposed to multifunction tablets or smart phones, which can almost certainly run both a Kindle app and your library's app just fine) are a pretty small market to begin with. Take the subset of people who prefer such a device and get their ebooks from a library rather than purchasing them or pirating them? It's not a lot.

I also predict that this will be the moment for the Maya Sector to break away. Possibly leading to something like this:

Valeri Ottweiler: Oh, and it looks like the Maya Sector is actually going to succeed with its revolt. Who set that up?
Colin Detweiler: Wait... we didn't have any plans for a Maya Sector revolt!
Oravil Barregos: TROLOLOLOL!

I have to wait till the book is translated.

And if that isn´t enough, the german Publisher cut every book from David Weber into two books. This means, i have to wait twice. Wait for the first half and then a few months for the second half.

It's not that hard. I started with the german versions as well and switched to the english ones. If you can participate in this forums, your english should be good enough. Imho RFC's english isn't complicated, so you should be fine. And not understanding every word isn't a problem either.

Also: If you order the hardcover books at your local bookstore, chances are, that you'll have it in your hands before most members of this board.
