There was a comment in one of the novels about how many people with treecats there were in the RMN. Can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure it was less than 20.

Just a light hearted joke, people.
Personally I do doubt that any endeavour to hide as a slave would work. No tongue tattoo, better fed & cleaner, no provenance (people to vouch for you), the rest of the crew to interrogate, just too many loose ends.

The wiki lists seven bonded RMN & RMMC personnel. There must be more but I'm damned if I can think of any not on the list. Three of them are dead, but two were survived by their treecats.

Whatever the odds, you can still hit the jackpot occasionally. HMAMC Wayfarer had two bonded crew members.

IIRC when Honor was a middie there were 16 treecats in the fleet.

If I was psychotic enough to haul slaves as cargo, knowing what they were and what they where going to (more slavery), I'd tell the Manty BC what I was carrying, then vent the cargo holds with the slaves while taunting the Manty's for their helplessness and laughing maniacally, give them the finger and set the reactor into overload.

BOOM. Goodbye for me and my ship

Why? Because the best I could hope for is life in prison. Which is unlikely. It's far more likely that slavers are tried and executed.

All of this is of course, assuming I was alive that far in the future and psychotic enough to traffic in slaves in the first place.

Which I am not, thankfully.

Given Prolong life spans a death sentence may be a choice some one would prefer over spending a couple of centuries in prison. In prison I would suspect slavers unless they are protected by the staff would not last long in general population.

I would seriously consider programming and releasing the 200 flatpack missile pods i thoughtfully attched to the hull, then board the spider-drive courier boat in the boat bay and beat feet in the other direction.

I'm in a system where I've run the numbers after he hailed me. Another ship just passed by and warned us that we'd have a Manticoran visitor hypering in-system soon. Just sooner than we expected. He's heard some gossip that they were coming through. Some overenthusiastic spacer in a bar.

I ran the numbers. I'm less than 15 minutes from hyper. And if my calculations are right after the plot settled, I can evade if and only if I take this bearing 'X'. Luck of the draw this time. That's only if what I've heard about the theoretical limits on those gosh-darn missiles of theirs isn't better than the rumor mill plus the cushion I've added to it.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Hi Darrell,

Kudos on reaching rear admiral!

However, I believe 10th Fleet crews numbered ~30,000 at the time they took Crandall's fleet, ie the POW's outnumbered her crews by around ten times IIRC.

Not too far off my idea, which was to kill the crew of the vessel, destroy the records etc., duck into the non-genetic slaves quarters(IIRC, some slavers still kidnap people rather than growing them) and keep my head down.

At the time there was 2 treecats in 10th fleet, it was substantially re-inforced. there were """Definitely twenty-eight in the superdreadnought range, judging from their impeller signatures.""" when mike attacked Myers. (some were CLAC's) presuming that there are 16 SDP's and 8 more CLAC's than they had with crandal, that would at least double the strength. We also don't know how many lighter units she was reinforced with.

So that puts her fleet manpower at least 60,000.
IMO more likely it would be about 80,000.
With the possibility of it being 100,000.
IMO unlikely to be much more than 110,000.

And 2 treecats: That works out to 1 treecat per every 30K=55K two legs.
