Have is it ever been stated what the penalty is for being caught with live slaves in your holds?

As for blowing the ship and running away the captain of the BC may deiced that you are obviously guilty of something that warrants death and simply have your craft shot down and destroyed. Depending on where the reactor is it may not destroy enough of the ship to erase all the evidence.

Then your next words might be "hello Captain, opps hello Nimitz".

Actually if I was a bastard enough to be a slave runner I'd probably space them and run for it/blow the ship.

Not too far off my idea, which was to kill the crew of the vessel, destroy the records etc., duck into the non-genetic slaves quarters(IIRC, some slavers still kidnap people rather than growing them) and keep my head down.

The penalty for slaving is death. However, the prize crew delivering a captured ship would also have live slaves in the holds -- as one example.

Possibly! I'm hoping this Manticoran BC doesn't have them aboard, of course. There weren't that many treecats out and about either when she was a Captain.

Shortly after late 1922 I wouldn't be a slaver anymore, if I was one. The invasion of Mesa is a pretty big signal to look for another career.

Like LEO's today transporting drugs to a police station evidence room. They could also be guilty of transporting or possessing illegal narcotics. They would also probably have special transponder announcing prize ship under RMN,GSN,IAN,RHN control.

There's also the case of a successful slave revolt -- the holds would still be full of "slaves" 'cause there's no place else to put them.

Interesting thought - maybe carry the uniforms of some random navy which signed the convention as an escape plan?
******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

Considering the original question, the only way I'd be commanding a ship with holds over-filled with genetic slaves is If I captured the ships and cargo and was heading for Torch to donate the ship to their merchant marine.

Another interesting thought:

The penalty for piracy is also death, but what do you do with a pirate who captured a slave ship and heads for Torch with it?

Treecats in the navy are relatively rare. In shadow of freedom, When Mike needed a treecat lie detecter, there was only 2 in the entire 10th fleet. (SDP's, CLAC's, BC's, etc.)

if there was only 2 out of somewhere between 50,000-100,000 crew, How likely is there to be one on a ship with less than 500 crew? Answer, slim to none.
