Well reading is misleading term I suppose. I found this series from a recommendation from Audible.com (Amazon's audiobook company) so I've actually been listening to the series and on the weekend I finished A Rising Thunder which is supposed to be the last in the Honor Harrington series so far according to Wikipedia and other online resources. However, according to Amazon.com, Shadow of Freedom is the next book in the series even though Wikipedia says it's part of the Saganami Island series indicating it's a side series. Should I just start on that series while waiting for the next Harrington book to arrive?

"side series" is, to put it mildly, misleading.

Much of the detail of things the characters in the allegedly main series are responding to is contained in the other books.

As Louis R put it, side series is misleading. The only true side series in the Honorverse are The Star Kingdom series and The Manticore Ascendant series, which take place in the distant past of of Manticore (not too far after the Plague was defeated, and new settlers were invited to immigrate to Manticore).

you can also reed them in time line order also. Read the novella Changer of Worlds prior to In Enemy Hands which gives the reasons why a bunch of six limb aboarials are sending out a colonial expedition to Grayson.

Vince, nice summation and order. I really enjoyed all the books on audio, and now with Starfire on audio, have something to hold me over until the fall.

Though pretty much the only stories in the anthologies that are critical are those by Weber and his principal collaborators (Flint, Lynskold, Zahn).
