Well Louis R.,

The people on Safehold are not Christians either ;) and this discussion which began as the question about the next title jumped in many directions (as is frequently the case on the forum discussions) but... it seems that we mostly enjoy the divergent dialog.

Rather thought so, but hymn writers seem to be even more enthusiastic about filing off serial numbers than Hollywood composers.

Again, it's a matter of context - all the Safehold titles, after OAR, have been clipped from hymns. And actually apply, at least thematically, when considered in the context from which they're clipped.

"As He died to make men holy, let us fight to make men free" OK, who died? and how did he make men holy?

"Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. He's tramping out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored." Baron Green Valley? The Duke of Eastshare? just which lord do we see coming, and what difference does it make? Agreed, that's the vintage that is being tramped out, but there's a lot of people gots their feet in that there vat.

Without access to the full text there's no way to know, but these look to me like the fall somewhere on the range from 'lousy fit' to 'uselessly general'

Hi Louis R,

Right on both counts!

I suspect RFC prefers the ambiguity of AtSoT, and with at least another book before we move ahead ~20 years to the next story arc, the climax has yet to happen, so its only the SIGN of triumph, not the actual victory some are implying.

Well considering the fact that the title of the book is At The Sign of Triumph. But the very next phrase is "Satan doth flee". Now who do you think Satan is, and why do you think he is fleeing?

Actually, "At the Sign of Triumph" is the last book in this arc, the next book after it picks up 20 years later. (David's talk at the National book Festival in DC last fall)

This talk was mentioned by someone else on this forum and I wasn't sure anyone had posted that it was available.

It talks a lot about the Honor Harrington series, but also mentions the Safehold series, in particular, how there is one more book after HFQ to complete the present story arc. It also mentions that after the 20 year "gap" to the next Safehold story arc, everyone will have steam powered economies with the implication that the fight will be harder/bloodier[MY interpretation].

It's about 45 minutes, but for those of us who haven't managed to get to one of the Cons to see David, it's interesting and informative to watch.

Much speculation about how October is unrealistic - I haven't seen one suggestion that makes it possible. RFC did both books at the same time and thrned them in to Tor, who sat on the second book for a year. I have no evidence for this, but consider my contribution to the rumor mill

Louis R - The previous two lines to the one quoted are:
"In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me."

So the answer to your question is actually in the previous two lines.
