Maybe, just maybe, our great & glorious Author has acute writers block; he's suddenly realized that he's painted himself into a corner, plotwise, and doesn't know how to end the story arc with just one more volume! ;)

I don't think so, if it sell no editor would refuse a book or two more to publish. And about to be in a corner is more a freeway with too many deceleration lane.

While I would love more helping's of RFC/MWW's crack (e.g., snippets); my fondest hope is that he and his family are all healthy and the delay in hearing from him is based on all the work associated with putting out books in three different universes (Honorverse, Safehold, and Hells Gate).

I have to say that I sort of concur with OJsDad.

In previous books I really enjoyed the quick snippet buildup to the book. But for HFQ it was so drawn out that I rather lost the will, especially with those last few months of no snippets at all :-(

[Edit] I should emphasise that I enjoyed HFQ when it came, and I fully understood that real life priorities overcame - just that if I had a choice on the snippet process I'd definitely go for the shorter timeframe!{/edit]

Last I heard, David was still writing the next Honor book - which itself was running well behind schedule - and had not started writing Triumph.

Ouch. That means that he may well miss the deadline for turning in ATSoT.. :(

RFC's postings are always interesting, aren't they? Especially when they are at their most deceiving and misleading!

Yeah, it'd be nice if Diladu(sp?) got him PO'd again :)

Dilandu has not posted since Jan 17, I also miss his interesting take on many topics that RFC discusses

I always read each book from the beginning, since there are details and hints in the snippets that I invariably forget, so I'm not upset that we got quite a few snippets for HFQ.

The frustrating part about those snippets was that with the book being bumped to a later release date, RFC found that he'd snippeted the amount of the book he intended to months before the book's release - but he was so busy that he never let us know that! So we were left constantly checking for a new snippet until we finally reached the obvious conclusion that there weren't going to be any.

Since RFC was buried with work kicking "Road to Hell" out the door, which is a GREAT read by the way, I have absolutely no complaints on what he was doing all that time, although it would have been nice to know that the snippets for HFQ were finished. That's yet another reason for my ongoing campaign to turn the snippeting over to Drak again. I realize RFC enjoys doing it when he has time, but as he became progressively busier during the months that we awaited the last couple of snippets, which were posted as complete chapters a month apart instead of a bit at a time every week or so, the frustration level among those of us who can't get enough of his writing grew and grew. Check the size of the forum "HFQ Snippet Request" which as of the publication date had 683 entries covering 69 pages! :o

The amount of each book that gets snippeted is about 1/3, give or take a few pages. It may have seemed like more with HFQ simply due to the time between snippets and the delay in publication. Had Drak been doing the snippeting, we'd have gotten our fix three times a week, but he'd have run out of pages by the time RFC did - or even earlier. However, Drak would have TOLD us when the last snippet arrived, which would have lowered the frustration factor, and reduced the "HFQ snippet Request" thread to a page or two, and we could have put the time we spent on 69 pages of begging to better use in other threads.

But at least our begging was sometimes original, wasn't it? And, it did keep our interest alive (mine, at least).

I always start back at the beginning for every book that I receive, no matter what the level of snippeting. Then I read it at least twice, to make sure that I dig out all of the content possible. Of course, it does help to have the forum direct me to the good parts, in many a case.

In other words, MWW, p*l*e*a*s*e consider this a heartfelt plea for the start of snippets as SOON as possible!

Actually, the "HFQ Snippet Request" thread was one of the most entertaining during that entire period, until we ran out of snippets.

Unfortunately, the superstition that changing my tagline would result in a new snippet only worked twice... :(
