I personally would love to see a bit of this theme creep into the story. It certainly makes sense for the culture that exists.

Talk about thread drift :D :D
If we consider Merlin's and Nimue's recorded brains as people/souls they are both female.

I'm not aware of any textex regarding any sort of sexual action/reaction on Nimue's part.

Merlin's a lot more interesting. In the water polo game he seemed to be having the reaction of a transgendered female. We don't know the capacity of the pica to make complicated changes so we don't know if Merlin could change the pica back into a female. I would think when we're goin' after Gbaba Merlin will have changed back into the female body she started this whole thing with.

If in fact Merlin has a crush on Nynian, he's acting as a lesbian. All the slaughter and killings Merlin has done have been the actions of a woman in a male body.

Nimue/Nimue was activated before Nynian was brought into the circle. Does she know Merlin's really Nimue in a man's body? We don't know Nynian's gender preference, do we?

What I wanna know after reading this thread, is Merlin circumcised? ROFL :D :D

If this has offended anyone please accept my apologies. This thread has gone beyond ludicrous.

Merlin is ;) Drab is not. ;) ;) :D
I see that Merlin and Nimue are both robots in that they can turn off that part of their programing and not "feel" those things anymore if they wish.
They have the same memories, but those to can be repressed by their programs and that is why merlin did not wish to give Nimue his safehold memories, but to let her form her own. From time they wake up on safe hold, they are new beings with a shared memory in the deep past. They can chose who they like and love due to the fact they are still only robots with human memories and emotions when they choose to have them. They can't reproduce, and only get joy out of it if they choose too.

romantic possibilities aside, lets not forget that there are many examples of "sacrifice for the greater good." throughout the series.

the inquisition has yet to dig up the equipment used by the "faithful" seijins from the first war. I could totally see Rayno putting a team of special agents in seijin armor with a mini-rakurai, and calling them demi-seijins.

Only Merlin and Nimue could deal with that, and depending on what was left could be modern weapons, which could harm a PICA.

Perhaps. But I would think that if the inquisition had that capability, they would have used it by now. Nobody in the Temple seems to have tumbled to the possibilities of what might be in the basement.

The Church certainly does remember the distinction. Back in my monastic days my novice master made sure to remind us frequently that we were called to "celibate chastity," thus closing off any loopholes an inventive novice might have been tempted to exploit.

Although the brothers in my order were well aware that an occasional screw, however lamentable, was much less damaging to the bonds of community than an emotional entanglement.
