So what happens when President Pritchard's treecat meets ADM Foraker? Does Eloise have to stay at Bolthole or does Shannon become the President's ad hoc naval attache and bodyguard transport?

I assume the newly bonded treecat stays with their new partner and President Pritchard is temporarily without a treecat until a replacement, non-bonded, 'cat can be sent.
(Although if there are multiple Havenite people, on Haven, with 'cats they may rotate or reshuffle assignments while they're shorthanded)

First its Echoes of Honor and it's for a year or more. Second Eloise will just have to live with a new fuzzy bodyguard and pray one of the other treecat volunteers is compatible. IIRC there are at least 2-3 dozen other treecats making the return trip to Haven.

Question:
What happens if the treecat bodyguard meets it's perfect bond partner while assigned to someone else?

saber964 wrote:Remember it's the treecat who initiates the bond, so the person whose bodyguard has bonded is just going to live with it.

I don't see that being an issue. Shannon Foraker is going to be up to her eyeballs in work at Bolthole for years, and Eloise Pritchart is going to be buried even deeper in politics and diplomacy. The two probably won't even meet for 5 to 10 years; everything will go through Tom Theisman.

Bolthole should get a fairly large contingent of treecats, as it is becoming one of the single most important systems in the Alliance and maintaining its security is a Real Big Deal. Remember, Sonya Hemphill, Herlander Simoes and most of the staff of Weyland Station are headed there. It could even get a full cat-colony.

The treecats also perform as much pre-screening as they can to match guards with two-legs; that's how Lurks In Branches got assigned to Lester Tourville.

One thing to remember is treecat guardians are NOT adopting their protectee they might but it's a job protecting a person from evil mind-glows giving the 'cats a way to fight back to those who killed the Black-Water Clan.

One thing to keep in mind regarding possible tree-cats adopting various humans.... bonds only happen between treecats who feel that need/urge to go out and try to get bonded. We have no evidence that the same urge is in the 'cats who volunteered to become furry bodyguards.

So in all probability, the odds of any of the volunteer bodyguard treecats developing any bonds are slim to none.

IF there's any bonding happening, it's because David is throwing Rose a bone to keep her quiet, and giving Shannon (and possibly a few other Havenites) properly bonded 'cats and not mere bodyguards. Although the odds of Rose keeping quiet if she gets her loves bonded treecats is slim to none, I'm sure he'll try.

How do we know there is not a Black Water Clan? We already have a Moon Water and Bright Water Clan. All of the clan names seem to be descriptors of where the clan lives or a significant event in the clans history e.g. Laughing River and Damp Ground clans and Fire Runs Fast clan.

Has anyone considered the tree-cat Michelle Henke will get?

RedBaron

Treecats shouldn't be Marines.

They would be better suited to something like Force Recon or equivalent.

(edit)
Or COMMANDOS! Drop a clan of them in secret in the dead of night on the planet Mesa, at least they could ID anyone of interest to capture.

Objection, facts not in evidence! Inference maybe but not hard fact, not even the cats are certain. All we know is that the ones who feel that call actively seek it, nothing that says only those cats can be bonded to humans.
