[quote="Somtaaw"]Oh, no argument there saber, the GSN definitely has more age than the RMN.

But as a true memorial sort of thing, it'd be like Canada putting up a dinky assed destroyer from say the Gulf War, and saying that our museum ship is just as 'cool' or 'historical' as the USS Iowa (or the USS Missiouri? I'm afraid I'm not up on which US battleships are the truly respected ones) or the British and their HMS Enterprise./quote]For historical I'd put Missiouri above Iowa because the Japamese signed the terms of surrender on the deck of the Missiouri at the end of WWII.

HMS Victory is still a commissioned ship in the British navy. That is a real historical ship. At the same base is HMS Warrior which is significant in itself, but not as much as the Victory. Across town the Cutty Sark isn't a warship, but it represents the merchant navy which made them possible.

I always thought that when LACS worked out, they worked out against heaver units or ships of the wall. However, they probably worked out against each other as well. LAC on LAC squadrons -- with one squadron simulating the size and characteristics of Peep squadrons. Like the Navy's Fighter Weapons School.

Does anyone know the range of LACS?

By range, I assume you mean endurance? Prior to the development of modern LACs by Manticore, it was measured in days, because everyone was using the same fusion generators they stuffed into every other hyper ship.

Modern Haven sector LACs are limited purely by how many supplies you can cram into the hull. I believe I saw somewhere in Ashes, that the technician Shannon brought to Bolthole gave Havenite Cimeterre's between 3 days and a week of life support.

So 7 days = 7 * 24 hours * 600 and change gravs = their maximum cruising range. Manticoran LAC's I think have loosely equivalent life support, as we've seen during Buttercup more than a few strikes were done ballistically over multi-day timeframe.

The original Cimeterre w the fusion plant had a 96 hour endurance. Manticorian fission LACs had a 18 month endurance on the powerplant, with consumables for a considerable time (weeks), assuming you wanted to live on canned rations in a sardine can.

Awhile back there was a serious discussion about whether or not a fission LAC could make the journey between close star systems on it's own power, which devolved into "can a Manticorian farmboy whip up a cryotube from spare parts on a LAC."
******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

They have mentioned that the crews of LACs are on the eccentric side at the very least. Dealing with the food is the least of their concerns considering their ship has very little chance of surviving any serious hit to the hull.

I had no idea that the range err endurance was anywhere near 96 hours. I thought it was barely enough to effect a complete battle, which I thought was why LACS kept returning to the CLAC when they were first introduced. My bad. In retrospect, I suppose that was because they were damaged or the need to rearm.

Thanks for the info.

Yeah, they burn through their ammo pretty damn fast. A good example of this is the battle in Chantilly, the Katana's that moved to defend Nike and the other Agamemnon while Henke tried to advance up. In just a few minutes of firing, they fired what Haven officers figured had to be 50% of their possible missiles off.

Sustained combat, where the LACs are doing extended firing, such as the Battle of Lorn just defending the fleet against Tourville's ambush burned up most of the LAC missile supplies. Then Moriarity fired that 17,000+ missile storm and the LAC's would have been down to lasers real fast.

I'm assuming that at any possible opportunity, if the CLAC's are with a fleet, they'd redock by squadrons to rearm. This is particularly true for Havenite doctrine which keeps their SD-sized CLAC's with their fleet, and relies more on "shoot, shoot, look" for defense. That's gotta burn up missiles faster than Manticoran precision can, even if Manticoran LAC's seemingly fire even faster when the need is there.

Yup, in permanent drydock since 1922, and until USS Constitution gets out of drydock in 2018, when she will again become the oldest warship still afloat.

We've been discussing Manticoran wealth from many angles. What about Havenite wealth? Did textev mention any wealthy Havenites?

I'm curious about the financial status of Pritchart. What do they pay Presidents in the Honorverse anyways? Certainly when Pritchart steps aside she will be a wealthy woman?

I imagine many opportunities have opened up for Havenites to share in the lucrative Manticoran lifestyle.

I'm certain that Elizabeth has helped grease a financial easy street for her new friend.
