On another front. In sports, like baseball, all sorts of records have been broken. The Guinness Book is unrecognizable.

Babe Ruth's 11 season record will be crushed. In that same vein, logic dictates that Barry Bonds' homerun record of 762 will also be shattered.

Exactly how many characters are there that can be used to indicate a special condition?
* Low gravity

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

So, basically, a heavy worlder playing in a low gravity stadium would be banned for performance enhancing drugs? Doping?

When someone from San Martin steps up to the plate in a Grayson stadium and he raps the bat on the plate in an agressive gesture then points to the sky, he isn't pointing to the 900 yds wall? He's pointing to Grayson's food farm in low orbit? :lol:

Actually, the game's continued to morph somewhat - catching those balls is the job of the left field "Longstop" and his hover scooter.

Looking further, what defines as retirement in a Prolong society? How many years do they need to plan on living after they retire and how much would that require them to have saved up or invested? Granted, that is largely based on the currency in question, individual habits, and personal choices, but there has to be a benchmark somewhere. What do retirement accounts look like?

All sorts of follow-on scenarios and questions start to crop up here and not all of us have Lady Alexander-Harrington's luck with fate, money, and circumstance.

It seems more likely that people will retire, or semi-retire multiple times. Reach a point where you're getting bored with your career, and have enough savings to easily take 7-10 years off. Then maybe get back up to speed in your old profession, or go back to school and switch professions.
Rinse and repeat.

That seems more likely, to me, that someone working for 140-ish years then taking 50 years off. (Especially since you're unlikely to need to significantly slow down for health reasons)

That would make sense to me as well, but then we have all sorts of interesting examples of people not doing that in the series. Rajampet Rajani's death throws the Solarian Admiralty into disarray as he's held the slot for over a T-century. We can safely assume that at least one of the Mandarans has held their slot for equally as long. Innokentiy Kolokoltsov said as much in either ART or SFTS, (apologies, I can't remember which off hand). I also thought James Webster had served for about a century in uniform. We know White Haven has served about 70-80 years and I wouldn't be surprised if Sebastian D'Orville served a comparable time to either of his associates. I can only assume in the SLN (either FF or BF) that you have to serve quite some time to make Flag rank or General Officer rank even with political/familial connections.

I don't think Haven has anyone that has survived long enough over its last three wars (1st Haven-Manticore, Unification (vs State Sec), and 2nd Haven-Manticore) to have over 50 years experience. I might be mistaken in the case of Alfredo Yu or Amos Parnell but neither of them are in the Havenite navy or government any longer.

One of my favorite characters would fit your theory, however. Aivars Terekhov first served in the RMN; then, spent 28 years in the Foreign Office, and went back to the Navy. Side note, he's a favorite becuase he's actually followed the career path I really hope to achieve some day. I really, really want to be a Foreign Area Officer/Military Attache. In spite of the Benghazi and other embassy incidents.

He's held it for a long time, but he hasn't held the slot for over a century, or even close to it. Remember prolong is relatively 'new' in the Honorverse; the last pre-prolong Star Kingdom natives were dying of old age early in the series. Ranji was one of the first to get prolong, and was one of the oldest people alive at the time of his death, but probably wasn't over 150.

Rajampet was IIRC 125 T-years old and had held the CNO's position for the better part of 40 years and hadn't held a space going command in over 60 years. Also IIRC Kingsford has been CinC Battle Fleet for the last 12-15 years.
