Just curious but would Hydro-electric power "violate the Proscriptions",as they appear to be allowed power generated by water, which is basically the concept of Hydro-electric. The only problem I can see is the possibility of the dam being a prime target for sabotage.

Safehold has had hydro-mechanical power for a very long time. However, the process of attaching an electrical generator to the shaft of the waterwheel/turbine to generate electrical power will rather quickly gain the attention of the Inquisition. If you are lucky, the Inquisition will settle for tying the wire leads to your privates. Otherwise expect to experience the full horrors of the Inquisition's bag of tricks. |

Because electricity itself is strictly forbidden by the proscriptions. --
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

Can anyone say orbital bombardment system. My guess is that the steady discharge of electrical interference is one of the OBS targeting criteria.

Hydro-electric is electric. Electric violates the prescriptions. |

A skilled theologian might be able to argue that copper wire is simply another way to transmit Writ-approved power to Writ-approved uses but I think just about everyone on Safehold would find such an argument implausibly far-fetched.
The first short-circuit would make it unmistakable that the process was harnessing the lightning. |

Just make sure that a qualified inquisitor has one hand on each side of the short circuit... Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

Just how is your "writ approved power" going to be applied once it is transmitted? I don't think even the CoGA has enough money and influence to get an intendent to try that logical argument. .

They may not have any uncommitted wealth, but the CoGA has the most money of any single entity on Safehold. At least in absolute terms; they were getting something like 20% of the global economy in "tithes" up to the beginning of the Jihad and technically are still getting that from everywhere except the Empire of Charis. More importantly, as the "certifying authority," the CoGA has more influence over what is or is not acceptable under the Writ. .
