If the price of snippets was to suddenly drop, it could cause panic selling. Those with large positions in the snip sector might flood the market with snips and snippets in order to restructure and diversify their portfolios. We could even see *DAILY* snippets if such a dire course was to unfold.

Henry, and this thread, is discussing the possibility and price index of future snippets -- "futures" which is speculative. Speculative futures.

RFC owns the rights of Honorverse snippets. And thus, you just never know what the effect of someone who has attempted to corner the market will ultimately be until that crop report comes out and we find out if the recent drought affected the state of snips -- which are used to produce snippets.

OTOH, The DOW: DJIA (David's Jarringly Interesting Announcements) formerly known as the Dow Jones Industrial Average, closed at an all time low this year. Nary a Peep of a snip.

DOW closed ↓ 99.99 (100 %)

You sound like a hedger.

Be careful what you ask for. I remember a story from quite a few years ago when DW posted a snippet consisting of the entire story: the first letter of each sentence.

The rest of the crop was definitely affected by the blight.

You know, I hadn't considered it till you mentioned it, but RFC *DOES* have a monopoly on snips and snippets. I'm pretty sure that monopolies and trusts are illegal. We should report this state of affairs to the Snippet Exchange Community. Once the SEC gets involved, I'm confident the matter will be resolved.

Sorry about that, but it always bugs me to see that...

Back on topic, I can say with 95% certainty that the words "Let's be about it" and "Such as it is, and what there is of it" will be in the next book.

Um, Hutch, you're wearing the wrong hat. That was a spelling error. Not a grammar mistake.

Spelling and grammar are separate. You can write things properly but not spell them correctly. You can spell everything correctly yet not write them correctly. I have problems with the grammar but my spelling is above ground.

Idioms I also get wrong.

(Muphry's Law strikes again!)

Are you referring to linguistic jargon or common usage? In linguistic jargon, "grammar" means syntax. In common usage, "grammar" means syntax, semantics, pragmatics, punctuation, usage, spelling and pretty much anything else one can shove in a middle school or high school grammar textbook.

See? John's grammar is excellent. He just misspelled Murphy.

And thus I have learned an additional piece of English today. Which is the purpose of my posting on the forum in the first place after all. Well, the original purpose at least.

But the process described is clearly inconsistent with the fact that, when the supply of snippets is set to increase the result is not a flood of snippets, but instead a penury, as evidenced by the long threads of people begging for snippets.

'Oh, oh' he said in English. Evidently, he had completely mastered that language.

Again, it is because an investor has chosen to corner the market on snippets to drive a particular goal. In this case, the goal is to encourage other investors to diversify their portfolio and buy the books -- which are made from these snippets.

Call it a friendly, yet strategic, acquisition of the smaller Snippets, Inc. to drive the revenue of the much larger conglomerate of Honorverse, Inc.

My father once said, "Keep business separate from pleasure because business is a b*tch that lowers her skirt back into place and walks away after she's done with you."

A lesson that's served me well over the years.

This same shrewd investor has also secretly acquired Snips, Inc., which represents unfair trade practices of attempted monopolies.

Henry suggested that we report it to the SEC. If so, we should do it covertly. Perhaps we can use a cutout that supports whistleblowers clandestinely.

Hmm, WikiLeaks!
