How powerful are energy batteries?

I don't remember ever reading anywhere how powerful the grasers and lasers of the various ship classes actually are. Can someone fill in this gap in my honorverse lore?

I don't think actual wattage (or whatever) levels have ever actually been put somewhere in the books.

However, we know that superdreadnought grasers are powerful. HMAMS Wayfarer with her superdreadnought grasers damn near punched entirely through a Peep battlecruiser's armor, and out the far side. Numerous other samples of the brute power of superdreadnought grasers.

Edit: PNS Sultan was a Sultan-class Peep battlecruiser, and iirc is considered on-par with the Reliants. So it's got anywhere upto a full meter of composite armor on either side of its hull. And it's a good 90m in beam, so quite a bit of work for an SD-sized graser to punch through, even considering the close range action it was.

On the smaller side, HMS Hexapuma's point defense laser clusters just brutalizing the Mesan covert ops transport's exterior. Sure they're not grasers, but still energy weapons.

It depends on if you want cold hard facts or generalities? On the cold hard facts side there is generally not much information beyond range and size of emitters. On the generalities side there are statements like "enough firepower to shatter a small moon" or "blasting asteroids into small chunks" or "blasting a hole clean through a ship".

There was reference to a SD's energy armament being able to destroy a small moon. Not sure where, sorry.

Would be Flag in Exile, I'm pretty sure. Somewhere either just ater Honor takes command of GNS Terrible, or right about the time she starts ripping the **** out of the attacking Peep force. Can't recall exactly, but I'm pretty sure that's the book regarding superdreadnoughts being able to shatter small moons.

Yep. 4 BC's vs. one DN. Textev: "A quarter-second later, Battlecruiser Divisions 141 and 142 of the People's Navy ceased to exist." According to HOS, a Bellerophon-class DN has 15 Lasers & 18 Grazers in ea. broadside. Assuming 1/4 of the broadside per BC & ea. BC was hit with 3-4 lasers & 4-5 grazers & ea BC was destroyed w/ all hands.

Would a DN's energy batteries be on par w/ an SD's? I think so. How powerful are energy batteries? VERY.

I can't recall where, but I believe it's been stated that the difference in weaponry between a dreadnaught and a superdreadnaught is in the number of mounts - the weapons themselves are identical (within a given generation of ship - a newer DN may have more powerful weapons than an older SD).

What's the power budget of the Voldemoort (TWTSNBN) compared to that of the most powerful grasers?

At any rate, when Ajax couldn't get her bay doors open from damage (IIRC), I always wondered why low input grasers weren't used to solve the solution and cut them open like sardine cans.

This all, of course, assumes that the power output of a graser can simply be dialed down. And I imagine it can. Just cut the power across 75 % or more of its capacitors. Which would amount to just a glancing blow -- as if to just "grase-her."

I also admit to thinking very early on into the Honorverse that someone would develop the application of what amounts to a step-up transformer. Something that would increase the power delivery of grasers several fold.

I always imagined a combo ship/technology. Such as an application that directs enormous amounts of energy at a specialized stealthy probe that has been steered into position that instantaneously "steps up" (like a highly focusing magnifying glass) and redirects into an enemy ship.

Mr. Peabody and the Brains are working on it at Bolthole. :D
