Let's face it. The snippet thing didn't work out so well for HFQ... lots of disappointment and unsatisfied expectations.

I'm surprised you feel that. Might I enquire the reasons?

The fact that I entertained myself by giving you guys the business does not mean that I don't enjoy the snippets myself... :D

Anyone else think that "At the sign of triumph" is an OMINOUS title for a book? I'm thinking that Charis is about to win the war when something unexpected happens to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory... or at least an unexpected challenge appears to make victory harder than expected (a story version of a video game boss battle).

Of course, the titles of the books in this series are almost entirely tangental to the events in them. So there's PROBABLY not going to be some eleventh hour angelic appearance to save the Church.

Probably.

I expect there will be some surprises...not all of which wiil be pleasant. But Charis must win to sustain the overall story arc which embraces Safehold's recovery of technology in preparation for one day confronting the Gbaba.

"At the Sign of Triumph" is another line from "Onward Christian Soldiers", just like "Hell's Foundations Quiver".

At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee

After all, the good guys are going up against the Mighty Host, right?

And the expectation is that the Mighty Host are going to be routed, i.e., flee, correct?

And the Mighty Host is on the side of the evil, true?

So not an OMINOUS title from the point of view of Charis.

And the doubt and fear that Rayno saw in Clyntahn was definitely Hell's Foundations Quivering! (As well as the Inquisitors not being as diligent, the camp guards turning on the Inquisitors and the Mighty Host commander "imaginatively" interpreting his orders). So the foundations are definitely quivering by the end of HFQ.

Ah, but that does not take into account our Author's well known proclivity for utter SNEAKINESS! He does not necessarily speak in ellipses but he most certainly does write them!

I think that the sneaky bit gets overplayed. While RFC can include unexpected twists and turns in the plot, his overall story arcs have both consistency and integrity. In short, he does keep faith with his readers...

All I know is that I hope RFC and his lovely family stay healthy and that the speculation posted here about publication dates etc.. is true.

I feel there are going to be just a few more interesting plot twists and possible outcomes considering how HFQ ended.

Oh and Happy New Year to everyone on these forums :D

HOWEVER, by these roadsigns, we are severely deficient in snippets IF THAT IS THE TRUE DATE OF PUBLICATION!

I say that HFQ was thoroughly atypical as far as snippets go, just because it was delayed so much, with the result that the snippets were spread over such a long period of time.

I agree with Don that the irregularity of snippets and their final petering out without any warning was severely disappointing and off-putting. Getting a big chunk every now and again didn't make up for all the times I checked the forum about on schedule to discover that the expected snippet was late or missing again.

Since RFC hasn't been seen on the forums since mid-November, I suspect he won't really have the time to do snippets himself, which I can quite understand.

Actually, I think that it should be very easy for David to submit any snippets he wanted to as he finished his final read through... AND... I cannot figure out how to make a reply where my comment is 'outside of the boxes like some of you do... and... I agree with the person whose post I have broken into... I think I will stay clear of the snippets as they come out... Time will tell and if I am promoted to Captain by the release dates then you will know that I lace self control and will power ;)

Personally, I think it would be better all round if he delegated the job to someone, starting much nearer the time. Alternatively we could just tough it out and get the whole book fresh when it's published, but it might kill off much of the community here. I, for one, have no real interest in endlessly chewing over old topics or random speculation for want of fresh material.
