OK... After I read the post more carefully... I pre-ordered a hardbound copy... Someone shared that Amazon sold him a Kindle copy for a few bucks after he had the hardbound... so I will try that... Not sure that I want to read the Snip-it / Spoiler cause it is like a fan dance.

As I am one of those who brought forward that special pricing, I hope that the Amazon offer will repeat for a Kindle ebook at around $2.99. The ability to use the search function on a kindle file makes it invaluable in this forum.

last anyone heard from RFC he was barely through the first draft (if that) of the next honor book. I highly doubt given that he has said that that is his current focus that he has had the time to run up even a first draft of the next safehold.

I think that publication date will be pushed back.

even RFC will likely struggle to finish writing the next HH and safehold and get them both off to their publishers in enough time for editing and then revsions etc and still make that october date.

there was also some talk about the next war good book before the next safehold. though I believe that to be merely fan speculation and not anything said by RFC

I say that HFQ was thoroughly atypical as far as snippets go, just because it was delayed so much, with the result that the snippets were spread over such a long period of time.

I agree with Don that the irregularity of snippets and their final petering out without any warning was severely disappointing and off-putting. Getting a big chunk every now and again didn't make up for all the times I checked the forum about on schedule to discover that the expected snippet was late or missing again.

Since RFC hasn't been seen on the forums since mid-November, I suspect he won't really have the time to do snippets himself, which I can quite understand. Personally, I think it would be better all round if he delegated the job to someone, starting much nearer the time. Alternatively we could just tough it out and get the whole book fresh when it's published, but it might kill off much of the community here. I, for one, have no real interest in endlessly chewing over old topics or random speculation for want of fresh material.

Just an FYI for those who are interested. The $2.99 discounted copy of the Kindle version of the book falls under Amazon's Kindle MatchBook program.

Amazon introduced the MatchBook Program just over 2 years ago. Under this program you are allowed to purchase the Kindle version of a book for $2.99, if you have previously purchased the same physical hard copy of the book from Amazon. Amazon claims that over 70,000 books are part of the program.

The tricky part though is that both the publisher and the author must agree to participate in the program . Without the agreement of both, the book will not be listed. Thus there are a number of best sellers, well known authors and series that do not participate in the MatchBook Program and pricing.

In the case of David Weber and his books. Tor, the publisher of the Safehold series, participates in the Kindle MatchBook program, while Baen does not. Which is why we see the special $2.99 pricing for the Safehold books, but not for any of the digital Kindle Editions published by Baen.

I love the contact with paper, the crisp rustle of the turning page but I like the ability to look up words... to highlight and make notes without defacing my hard bound or finding 20 post it notes at points if interests.

Recent trend in recorded music is to provide down load or CD when Vinyl is purchased... I did like the quick delivery of kindle

I think Drak was the official despenser of snippets prior to HFQ. As far as I'm concerned, that arrangement was fine. I don't know what happened to change it.
