One sentence from James Altucher's book, Choose Yourself, sums up the secret to my success: The only way to create value for yourself is to create value for others.

Which is why shifting value around, instead of creating it never works out.

Wasn't it Winston Churchill who commented that the trouble with socialism is that you always ran out of other people's money?

I've found that greed is the tree.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Isn't it interesting that American money is painted with the green of envy?

For the love of money is the root of all evil:

Money is the symbol of value: Loving the symbol instead of producing the reality is definitely a nasty root. This is one reason gambling is wrong.

I believe that quote is most accurately rendered as:
The love of money is a root of all manner of evil.

Not the root, or all evil, but some of it. There is a load of evil around that has nothing to do with money.

When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned, only then will we realize that one cannot eat money.

There is not enough value in burger flipping to support a middle-class lifestyle, and playing with numbers can’t change that.

With one caveat -- from the lips of my 14 yr-old niece when she was only 12...

"Unless you're flipping burgers at Corporate."
