TWTSNBN = The Waepon That Shall Not Be Named. Aka the grav-lance. So named do to far too many threads like this one (but worse, face worse) over the years.

At least, this time, nobody's going for the double whammy- combining The Weapon That Shall Not Be Named with the frig- I mean- The Ship Class That Shall Not Be Named.

If you add in armored treecat commandos someplace in the mix, it would be a trifecta.

And think about it, winter's late coming to most of the US, so cabin fever hasn't set in yet. How many times do you think we'll see them pop up again before the spring thaw?

I'll take anything interesting with grav lances over another "James, use the Maxim guns on that band of spear-armed natives" space 'battle'.

Silly. You fogot to put your glaff inside a meteor size energy weapon proof wormhole penetrating shell. Oh, and crewing it with treecats.

If somebody held a gun to my head and told me I just HAD to use That Damn Weapon in a story, my way would be to finagle a message into Sollie Intelligence (Warning: Oxymoron Detected!) that the Manties were planning to recommission all the captured Sollie SDs, equipping them with very long-range Grav Lances. This must be done subtly, (without any visible smirking), maybe through the auspices of some Beowulfan "League faithful". Then sit back and watch the ISLN jump through flaming hoops to try and figure out a countermeasure for a weapon that does not exist. THAT is the way I would use That Damn Weapon in a story (with a gun to my head). And yes, we do want the Sollies thinking that there are people on Beowulf who want to remain in the League, and are willing to pass information to the League secretly. That's how you deceive the opposition in a war.

I think Charles could manage that quite nicely.

I'm going to suggest grav-lance mines for system defence. Mix them with laser head mines. The grav lance mine goes off first, strips the target's defences, and the laser head finishes it off.
