Hi I am sort of curious about what you folks think will happen when the church runs out of money (Assuming it last that long). I would bet that the Harchenese would still be fighting but that Dolhar would back out. Any thoughts?

Fair enough but I mean they will no longer be able to pay their army. And at what point does everyone else just say no? I mean if the Church is out of money then they start just taking things and not paying for them how are the factory workers going to react to not getting payed anything and therefore no longer be able to buy any food? I mean the inquisition can keep it up for a while but I mean people need money to live and they would no longer get it...

Nationalise everything and turn the economy into one driven by barter. Want food? Either work to produce what the CoGA wants or supply those materials the CoGA needs. Perhaps they don't need to nationalise everything, just food production.

They might not need to nationalise food production, just make any food purchase legal with CoGA scrip. Scrip are earned only through supplying the church what it needs to prosecute the jihad. Workers end up working for food.

This would be normal-- force payment with currency that would have no value other than what the inquisition could enforce.

Wars usually do not end due to lack of money even if the parties fighting them are bankrupt.

That would make sense and it would most likely be what Zysyper enforces but in that case I sort of wonder why the treasure and captain general are both worried about running out of money if they are planning on forcing people to work for their food.

If they no longer have currency that people trust, people will become reluctant to provide goods in exchange for it, unless they're (maybe) offered huge amounts for it. You can force them to - at which point you may as well save paper and just conduct every economic exchange the jihad demands as a stick-up. That's possible, but it's going to take a whole lot of muggers for God.

It's not something that ends a war directly, but things will be working so very, very badly at that point that winning a war with that going on is not something anyone should expect - including the people fighting it. Soldiers with no morale at all may not end a war directly either, but there's only so many handicaps a side can bear before they quit and frag the muggers for God instead.

No one disagrees with you. Don is right, though. There are mechanisms to both bypass currency and stay within the Writ's limits on honest weights and measures.

One would think so, but it often goes down to the bitter end anyway. Ultimately what we are talking about is allocation of resourses rather than money which is only a means of exchange. If the Temple ordains that a bushel of grain is worth so many marks, a pound of steel worth so much, and so on and then have the inquisition enforce that, they probably could make it work for a long time. Maybe not forever, but in the pressure situation of a war, longer than you think.
