Well the thing is, Dynnis wouldn't know the two recipients would be at the same address. It's not like he was privy to what was going on in Charis after he left. |

Well, it was a SINGLE letter to Bishop Executor Zherald Ahdymsyn & Intendant Paityr Wylsynn because they were both assigned to Tellesburg and were #2 & #3 in authority for the Kingdom of Charis. This means that it is highly likely that they were both at the same address. The BSRA text makes it clear that the Archbishop was ORDERING them to remain in Charis rather than pointlessly sacrificing themselves to the Punishment by returning to Zion. -----

Going through the series allows one to find the gems that were, more or less, passed over in the first coupe of readings.
From "A Mighty Fortress" (AMF pg 289), (dialog between Vicar Samyl Wylsynn and Archbishop Zhasyn Cahnyr of Glacierheart, Siddarmark.) So we know it was plural letters and they were delivered to Archbishop (deceased) Dennys' widow. MWW keeps bringing these letters up, hmmm, I wonder why? -----

Nice catch. What we don't have, however, is any indication that Adorai received her letter. In fact, when Archbishop Maikel tells her of the letter that Father Paityr and the bishop executor received, she is portrayed as being surprised. She may have - probably did - gotten hers before he was even dead. Recall that she and the boys were still in Zion at that point. Dynnys wouldn't have known that she was involved with the Circle and that her foster sister had her in charge, but may have guessed that Clyntahn would turn vindictive and suggested that she get herself to Charis. He probably wouldn't have said anything about writing to his subordinates there, however, whence her surprise.
It is also possible that Samyl should be taken literally, in which case she didn't receive her letter until she got to Charis and saw Paityr Wylsynn for the first time - after she heard about them from Maikel Staynair. I'm more inclined to think he was somewhat misinformed, though. Since I don't think that he knew that Ahnzhelyk was directly involved either in getting Adorai Dynnys to Charis or the disappearance of his own family [unless, of course, he's a far better actor than Clyntahn ever guessed], all he would know about the delivery of the letter is what she chose to tell him.

Your second possibility sounds more likely. Her response to Staynair is "Letter, Your Emminence? Erayk got letters out?" This implies surprise, further suggesting that she had received no letters prior to that. So your thought that she would have received her final letter through Father Paityr would seem the more probable explanation. Don - When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

hmmmm... yes, I see your point. It doesn't like she had seen anything at all at this time, does it?
Which begs several other questions, of course

As someone who dealt with cases of academic misconduct for many years at a university, I can personally vouch for the sheer amount of material a committed person can get on to a small amount of paper. He could have written 10 letters if he'd employed the skills I've seen employed by students over the years. My fave cheat ever discovered is the technique of putting text on the 6 sides of a Bic pen using a very sharp stylus or needle. The information can only be easily seen at a certain angle to the lighting and few invigilators find students who stare at their pens while down on the paper suspicious. And it turns out you can inscribe quite a lot on a pen or two. |

Truly it is writ, the voice of experience ALWAYS outweigh the thought of speculation! I presume that the inscribed pen was retained for the edification of and to hone the vigilance of future proctors! I am substituting 'proctors' for your use of 'invigilators' only because the fallen Archangel who 'fixed' Merlin was Dr Elias Proctor, PhD! A more than 'academic' cheater against the Safehold Establishment! -----
