Given the procurement practices that were, apparently, current in the Janacek Admiralty, which it would have been his function to oversee, it's entirely possible that Houseman won't be getting out any time soon whether he wants to or not. And it's not academia he finds himself in, either.

The only way he would reappear would be if some governmental agency flunky hire him and is willing to buck the wrath of both QEIII and HAH, not going to happen. Plus I think Houseman is to much of a wimp to get out of the safety of academia for a very, very long time.

If it's any comfort, I'm sure Houseman may be punched and worse frequently in his current position.

IIRC, Susan Hibson (another old friend) is going to Talbott to take command of the surface troops there, so we'll hopefully see her in action (with or without chewing gum).

But yeah, Tomas would be a nice return; I wonder if they need a military commander on the ground at Mesa...and he could bring a certain CSM Babcock with him...

That's a nice thought. My only concern is that Tomas might have a problem adapting to the Grand Alliance - his hatred of Haven runs deep. Consciously, I'm sure he sees the difference between the Peeps and the Republic, especially now the MA's role has been revealed, but I'm not sure he'll ever stop subconsciously seeing Havenites as the enemy.

Could be a good topic for a short story though. I am curious how the varying degrees of animosity are being worked out in "the ranks".

Very true - we've already seen at least one Havenite officer (her name escapes me at the moment) on Lester Tourville's staff who still really doesn't like Manticore, but she's able to suppress it while they settle accounts with the MA.

fairly sure that is Bellefure, she is still p*ssed about what Honor and Mike did to her. especially as they interrupted a rare visit from her family.

Dauntless, I don't think Bellefuille (?) is holding a grudge at all-- it was just the luck of the draw, and she is a real pro. She got a promotion and is currently one of the three task group commanders of the Havenite component of Grand Fleet, under Tourville.

Molly is still holding a grudge, but her hatred of the Malign is so deep she's willing to set it aside (but not give it up).

Happy Holidays!

They'll either kill each other, or they'll vanish into some private room somewhere and not come up for air for a month.
