Even if the inner circle finds out about Clyntahns favorite wine, they may not do anything about it. The wine bottle would still have to enter the Temple and who knows what sensors are there. Putting nannies in a wine bottle may be detected as it enters the Temple and wake up whatever is under the Temple. It would not be hard to have an AI or PICAs or both under the Temple and it would not do to wake them up.

Kirarvexis,

Do you honestly think that anyone has the courage to inspect Clyntahns' private stock ...or, for that matter, that they would be looking for nano-tech after all these years with no contact?

I got the impression that this Grand Reserve is his alone... and even if he would offer a glass to Rayno, if the nano was set to respond to one of his temper tantrums and then kick in and ramp his BP till he strokes out... it would neither be seen as enemy action (except maybe of Shan-Wei herself) and it would not be kept quiet.

Enough key players in both camps are already starting to question the wisdom or need of his war. Take him out of the picture and there will be some power grab in the temple and in his order but the focus would be turned inward at least for a while.

If, EoC plays their cards right, the fight will leave the AoG and the Boarder States.

I know nothing... I only ask questions.

The Temple machinery might have automatic scans for nanites on everything coming through the door. If not, it's imaginable that Clyntahn's tasters have access to a holy relic that mystically detects poison.

Possibly, but remember how Alvah used his warehouses and managers to hide the vicars families when sh smuggled them out of Zion...
She knew no one would touch them.

Expert Snuggler got where I was going. The Temple could have been scanning for nano-tech in items coming into the Temple for centuries, since the War of the Fallen. I would expect, if the nano-tech in question doesn't have the right tag, an alert could go off. That could be bad depending on what the alert wakes up. Just giving Clyntahn access to an AI with SNARC capabilities would be very bad for Charis. Waking up a copy/PICA of the Command Crew would be WAY worse.

I got what you were saying also but... human nature has to be considered in two respects. First, This is Clyntahn whiskey or brandy or what ever it is... and no one wants to cross him (plus it seems to me that the passage in HFQ state that he sent his steward to pick it up) but almost as importantly there is a human tendency to ignore false results. Unless there are screaming alarms and flashing lights people tend to disregard things that they don't feel a sense of urgency about.

You are correct that it could be a big problem if Clyntahn had access to his own copy of a command crew PICA. He lite up like a kid in a candy store when he heard about "steam engines" and we have countless examples that he believes the ends justify any means.

I am more inclined to think that the first option would take place.

Did I ever tell you that I have been wrong before?

Hi C. O. Thompson,

Again, I don't see RFC going with a temple scan and counter to nanotech [ie a laser frying the bottle to the shock of all the guards] which awakens the thing in the basement, since the series isn't about dueling PICA's or AI's.

It's possible as things get worse for the CoGA this winter, losing Dohlar and Silkiah, if not the Langhorne canal, we might finally see Duchairn's coup attempt.

If the FoG helps out with mines, rifle grenades, and mortars etc. he might have a better chance.

Imagine if the inquisition agents, and officers commanding the Temple Guard, and lesser guards were suddenly savaged in hundreds of ambushes one morning by the FoG, prior to Rhobair's strike.

Interesting times. ;)

Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!

I don't think some flunky of Clyntahn's would ignore a god light and would at worst, bring it to Clyntahn's attention. I'm not thinking about that though as I was thinking about the Inner Circle not wanting to take the chance that some sensor in the Temple finds the nano and wakes up anything that could be in the basement. Yes, it might get through, but it might not. Merlin mentioned that the armorplast on the Temple was done to a ridiculous thickness in the first book, so who knows what sensors they have for things going inside?
