Just rereading house of steel and I noticed something.
Yes being royalty/heir to the throne doesn't guarantee a cat BUT the last 3 generations of monarch have all been catted. Queen Samantha had Magnus King Roger III had Monroe who then adopted Prince consort Justin upon Roger's death Queen Elizabeth the III has Ariel current crown Prince Roger (later to be Roger the IV presumably) is as yet uncatted. I know he is only about 20 but Elizabeth had Ariel by now, we don't have exact details on when Roger III was adopted but when we meet him for the first time in House steel when he is in his late 20s he already has Monroe and to me it is implied that they have been bonded for several years already. no info on when queen Samantha was adopted by Magnus has provided as far as i know. I know 'Cats have their own ideas and the right one might not have met him yet, but do people think it likely that he WILL be adopted at some point? 3 generations in a row suggests to me that a 'cat is in young Rogers future BUT while the bonds were true and deep those cats like all others were there to learn and pass on info about the Two-legs. now that they have abandoned the secrecy and are actually talking to two legs is their still a need for a watcher in royal ranks? |

He's still young, and he's no doubt 3rd generation prolong. He just hasn't met the right 'cat yet. Give him time.

KRIII was about 35 in HoS considering his birthday was 1809 PD and was likely catted in his twenties. Remember childhood adoptions are very rare, Star Kingdom books not withstanding.
Plus why wasn't the other heirs catted like Princess Caitren and Prince Michael they were heirs to the throne for at least decade or more. IIRC Caitren was heir from 1857 to 1865 PD and Prince Michael from 1883 to the mid 1890's PD. |

Unless the Manticoran heir is required or encouraged to spend a lot of time wandering around Sphinxian forests, the odds of them bonding should be quite low.
Given how many monarchs were actually adopted, it's clear the 'cats were seeking them out on some level. So if a heir hasn't been bonded by their thirties or so, it probably isn't going to happen. |

The treecat singers passed around the the mind glows of heirs to see if any of them would adopt and they also frequented the landing area to 'interview' the heir. Read the sections in HoS Winton and treecats and non-human sentient species. Also it was tradition for the Winton's to be adopted and they made frequent trips to Sphinx in adolescence and young adulthood to be adopted. IIRC between KEI and QEIII only one monarch was not adopted Becase he suffered from severe allergies and rarely left the palace. |

Yes, but if it has been a historical thing that all of the monarchy has always been bonded then it might behoove the Palace to hold treecat conventions right there to give plenty of opportunity. I would imagine that the 'cats would jump at the chance. I also wonder how other 'cats in the vicinity of Soul of Steel and Monroe has their frequencies 'overpowered' so to speak, by the strength of those two. I wonder if two other powerful bondees in the near vicinity could hinder the natural bonding mechanism? I have also wondered what mechanism prevents two cats from simultaneously tasting and liking the same human? I'd probably end up bonding with two female 'cats. Hey! Who am I to argue with two female P38s? A love triangle. If Ham-ish can have two puss-es then so can I. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

I'm thinking "because he hasn't met Sorrow Singer yet". Is there a better 'cat/future ruler matchup in the Honorverse available?
My opinion only but...not likely. Thoughts? ---------------------
All my posts are YMMV, IMHO, and welcoming polite discussion, extension, and rebuttal. This is the HonorVerse, after all |

Good match there also, but I will argue against briefly and let y;all discuss. Here's my logic: that forces her to be in direct contact with a constantly hurting person who also has no "tribe". Granted, the desire for revenge would match, but is that a good thing? My argument is that Sorrow Singer needs a full tribe to care about, and keeping the future leader of her two-leg's tribe well kept seems more of an emotionally merciful fit. ---------------------
