Somebody needs to get Rose a paper bag, a box of Kleenex, a large box of Chocolates, 2 bottles of Chardonney, and a Nicolas Sparks video stat! - we might lose her!

Good recommendation to chill out with a box of chocolates or a good bottle of wine.

But you have to be careful marrying them to each other. It's one of the most difficult tasks one can undertake - a real copper plated Ransom.

You want your wine to be sweeter than the chocolate. Dark chocolates are a real finicky bunch to mate. I prefer a good Riesling or a Sauternes but a Vouvray, Chenin Blanc, Muscat all work well too. But a Chardonnay? Questionable at best. Perhaps with a white chocolate and the right Chardonnay - but not something I'd choose. For certain, with a dark chocolate, it must at least be the more fruity Chardonnay to stand a chance - lest you've acquired a particular taste.

But on its own or with the proper meal instead, or a good cheese and crackers, Chardonnay is great.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

ok, i can see that but who would he chose to replace her, because no matter what the constitution says it WILL be his choice.

Kevin Usher? no he's too useful running internal security, though if he drops the ball on this he may be forced out but that would just make him more dangerous if there are no rules to hold him.

so that means they would probably have to take him out at the same time which puts VICTOR in charge! oh boy talk about out the frying pan into the fire!!!

so who would take over?

Probably Leslie Montreau, if their line of succession is remotely similar to ours - wait, do we know who their Speaker and President Pro Tem are?

Otherwise I'd love to see Ninon Bourchier in the role.

But all of this, you understand, is hypothetical because it's not happening.

As long as it isn't Arnold Giancola. Or, well, his spiritual successors. Although that'd still be better than Saint-Just or Harris!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the prospect of elections. They're inevitable with Tom in charge of the military. Is there a term limit for the presidency?

Even if there isn't, Pritchart can't hang on to the job too long if they're going to make their renewed democracy stick. She doesn't have to leave politics - to the contrary, I think Haven would be immensely served by having her in its Congress, gently pointing out where and when future Administrations get it wrong - but she does have to leave the Presidency sometime.

I figure their constitution has to cover what happens if s President dies or is permanently incapacitated. But I wonder if the method is not a succession for the rest of the president's term but a temporary interim acting president until a emergency election can be held.

That'd be plenty disruptive to the goals of the GA.
But I guess so could a succession that passed control to the holder of one of the other elected offices, rather than a VP of (at least nominally) the president's choosing. That might throw control over to someone with very different ideas than Pritchart.

Well we should find out in House of Lies even if it doesn't come up in the plot.

From the info in the podcast, House of Lies will take a while to be out, so it is highly likely at least one more Honorverse novel will be out by then - DW described his goal for the novella in the House of Lies (the parallel careers of T. Theisman and E. Pritchart, ending with their meeting when Theisman basically offers Eloise a choice - be the President of a restored Republic or go the way of Saint Just) but he emphasized that he may not be able to achieve that due to time, commitments etc, from which it is clear that he has yet to write whatever novella will go there; on the technical side the Bu9 group who authors it also seems to have run into time difficulties, so it's probable House of Lies will be 2017 or later

there are some very nice white wines coming out the nappa valley vineyards. too sweet for me but one of those with a box of Cadbury's Milk tray will settle any crying woman.

of course you have to give her a dvd of the princess bride to watch while she eats them. though if you can't find your copy of it fast enough then Dirty Dancing or Ghost will do.

what is it with women and Patrick Swayzee? (or however the hell you spell his name)

That would be a bad assumption since RFC has said the Saganami and Torch series are done and anything new will be "mainline."

Well, I could see cutting the side series books, but I still doubt he can resolve the whole storyline well in two more books. Four, definitely. Three, maybe. I suppose he did manage to cram pretty much the entire Second Havenite War into AAC, but I still think that the collapse of the Solarian League and the defeat of the Mesan Alignment needs more than two books.

If he doesn't resolve the Alignment conflict by the finale, I'll be very disappointed.

I think Ginny Usher would make an outstanding permanent replacement for Eloise.

Harold quit acting like your screen name, that is just sick. The person or persons, I can see taking over are Lesley and possibly Dennis. Thomas will avoid it like the plague but will back up whomever gets the job to the hilt and then some.
