I have seen almost nothing about Manticore Ascendant...is there a reason for this? It seems an interesting series, and well done so far.

Meh, after the fourth book or so, it'll probably get its own secondary forum.
Then the author will suddenly find another series to work on and it'll have to be folded into the-forum-that-was-once-Evergreen...

there isn't much because it is only 2 books so far and in a vastly different time period. like the young stephanie harrington books. a good interesting trilogy that aren't discussed much despite their impact on how we view the 'cats

And dumped just because someone stupidly decided to sell them as "young adult" and thereby shredding away 90% of potential readers.

The books are definitely worth reading, but even here on the forum, i´ve seen several noting that they didn´t even look at them because they got shafted into the YA segment.

There was a brief flurry of discussion right after the last book came out.

And I'm looking forward to the next one. Apparently we're going to see a little bit of what that era's Andermandi Empire is up to. (Tom Pope dropped the tidbit during Honorcon that Gustav Andermandi actually invented the "modern" battleship design when he was still a mercenary working for the League (back before the SLN became the behemoth it grew into) Apparently his going away deal was he got the IIRC first 5, the League Navy got the next 15, and he got to go off and found a pocket empire far, far, away.

Not sure if we're actually going to see anything about his BB's, back when they were the newest, baddest, warships in existence. But it'd be an interesting contrast to HMS Casey.

Interesting. I wonder was he actually involved in designing them or just coming up with the concept?

Good question. I'm not sure, but I'd guess that he was more involved in formulating a tactical strategy that could take advantage of a battleship, and using that to drive the higher level design parameters.
ut based on nothing but my own hunch I suspect he wasn't involved in the more low level detailed layout and design.

So I'm putting money on "somewhat involved". More that just having the concept of "Hey wouldn't it be neat if we had a bigger, more survivable, missile combat oriented warship?" :D

One question I have is, what happens when the "fleet" that Axelrod has arranged to be the "official" occupying force shows up? Will the RMN have at least tactical warning? Will the surviving RMN have enough strength to deal with them? Will they turn around when they don't find the Volsungs in possession of the system? Do they know that they are fronting for Axelrod?

Will Travis and the fair Lisa get together for more than a discussion of tactics?

Will all be revealed in "A Call for Vengeance?"

I know, that's seven questions.

Will the Axelrod fleet even move in without confirmation that the system has been taken? In any case my guess is that fleet is mainly troop transports and support craft with at most a light escort.

I would expect a light cruiser, and a couple of destroyers and frigates. Which should run when a battle cruiser starts heading their way, even this version of Nike.

It would be nice to be able to mousetrap them, and get proof positive of what's going on, at least as much as the local commander knows. Which may not be much. The System Governor to be would be a much richer prize.
