So, I got my copy of HFQ from Amazon, the hardcover that had the prime deal and listed itself as "new" but as I read the book last night, it was clearly pretty flimsy, pages tearing out in the normal process of turning them or just falling out on their own. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Nope, my copy was pristine, but I bought it from B&N. I always check the books I pick up from the store. Too often I've found a torn page or other damage to the book after I got home, so I got in the habit of checking them over before leaving the store.

More then once I've taken two copies to the counter and told the cashier that one copy wasn't suitable for sale.

If you're finding loose pages in a HC, that's a major manufacturing issue. One that Tor will want to get a look at. This sort of thing happens with MMPB, although neither publisher nor bindery are happy about it, but individual pages coming out should be virtually impossible in HC because the binding technique is completely different [very little glue involved, pages in bundles of 16 or 32].

As suggested, Amazon should arrange an immediate replacement. If they don't, contact Tor directly.
