I love a good historical and/or literary reference when it"s cleverly or casually worked into a story. The Safehold series, of course, includes many Arthurian references and devices, and David has explained "red shirting" and tuckerization as common means of incorporating fans' names into works. I just spotted something else in HFQ. Slightly over halfway through there briefly appears an AOG corporal named "Lairmahnt Crahnstyn" and nicknamed "Shadow," clearly a sort of homage to the old radio and pulp fiction character The Shadow, whose secret identity was Lamont Cranston. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows . . . Ahahahahahaha! I love these books!
