Actually in Echoes of Honor (near the Katerine and Elaine degree quote I posted a bit up-thread) Katherine teases Benjamin that she had a better biosciences background that him because she wasn't a "stodgy old history and government science major" :D

So we know at least some of what he majored in.

Ah yes. That morsel had escaped me. Thanks.

Approximately four thousand settled systems. Using Earth-now as an average, there are 72 million institutes in the Honorverse.

I wonder how many Landing Universities there are, given how many cities are called Landing?

You have a point there. I suppose wiki couldn't actually list that many.

I doubt there is another Landing University. Universities tend to protect their namesake, for obvious reasons.

IIRC, the peep naval academy.

Because she is clouds above the rest, I imagined her having advanced study prior to the academy. Not to imply that academies don't produce her temper of metal. Just not Peep academies. (ouch!)

Yeah, it's well know for it to be impossible for genius to shine without spending years in academia. Of course, the the Wright brothers might disagree. So might Thomas Edison.

And I suspect that the technical education at the academy was perfectly adequate. The Soviet Union's military academies seemed to be fairly well though of.

You know, if you spent half as much time reading the books as you do posting here, you would have caught up by now. :D

Well, how could they coordinate that? "Bye, colony ship 301. Wait I see you plan to name your first settlement Landing. Remember not to name your university Landing when you set it up - colony ship 28 got dibs on that. Good luck."

They wouldn't have the same names ultimately. Eventually they'd add the planet's name - Landing University of Manticore, for instance.

Neither of which attended a Peep academy. Mental acumen didn't strike me as part of the Peep hallmark. How could CO's constantly fail to realize that your missile storm would be more effective if you concentrated it?! How many times did Honor comment on their failure to concentrate? Isn't that 'Missile Storm 101' err 100? It's so intuitive that it's offered as an elective, not even a prereq. lol

And even the most incapable of artificial intelligences would realize, sooner than never, that if the opposing enemy commander has Salamander in her name -- it's a setup! Especially if an unexpected windfall has just occurred and it appears that she somehow has screwed up by the numbers. Aren't capable COs supposed to study and know their enemy? Especially when she's changed your or your navy's diaper over and over and over.

You put your poker chips on whatever color you like, but all of mine will be plunked down on university colors before the Peep academy for Theisman, Giscard, Yu, Shannon, Eloise and McQueen. Well, I'll accept that Giscard may not have actually graduated before the academy. And Shannon and McQueen may actually have been roommates off-planet. lol

I'll take my chances and let my chips lie where they may.

Fair enuff.

I'll make it part of my New Year's resolution when I expect to get my next big block of time.

It takes me days to get through some of these books. The tears are stumbling blocks for me. Then I'll pick it back up, reread the very same emotional passages again and find myself sitting for minutes with an even wetter page. Honor's time spent on Grayson, even in OBS, were all tearjerkers for me.

So I tend to like to set aside not only enuff time to read, but isolated time away from people, like the mistake I made reading one of the books on the riverfront and a little girl going "Mom, something's wrong with that guy. He's crying really bad." Now everyone's looking.

I tend to drown myself between pages, literally. It has been my curse or a major source of enjoyment since A Little Princess.

shrugs.

Of course there are the two obvious counter examples where it wasn't a set-up. Fearless vs Saladin/Thunder of God - where pushing though would have most likely won the hour for the Masadans (though they'd have ultimately lost the day one White Haven's BC squadron arrived)

And when Honor got captured. If they'd acted cautiously just because she was there HMS Prince Adrian likely could have escaped.

And arguably both of those look like she screwed up. (Or in the case of the former had no better choice than to fight way out of her ship's weight class.

IIRC Landing University is officially LUM Landing University Manticore so you could have Landing University Mobious.

Here's a thought, what do you think LUM's or RMNA-SI sports team mascots are?
