Given the lack of response from ANYONE about it, I'm guessing either no one believes Lieutenant whatshisname about the demon part (probably puts it down to shock and combat stress), or the Inquisition is editing reports to remove all references to demons (which admittedly doesn't take much).

I'm guessing Rayno at least doesn't want to admit "demon" involvement if there are no angels in sight coming down to smite said demons. Because lack of angelic involvement is likely convince people that the "demons" aren't demons, but angels instead... assuming they even believe anything supernatural is going on.

A well taken point which points to the terrible risk the Inquisition is taking by saying Shan-Wei is loose in the world.

Was it just me, or was there not very much information on the coming awakening at the year 1000 in this book, I would have liked to see more discussion on that, even though I guess it would be just like the speculation we have on that subject here in the forums.

How are they supposed to get more info on that? They're just lucky simply to have the information that they've already gotten from Paitr.

I was just thinking of some additional speculation on the character parts or some sort of information would be revealed from the journal that would need to be discussed in this book.

We have an omniscient narrator. Had he chosen, our host could have weakened his upcoming surprise (or whetted our appetites) with something like "Deep in the Temple, an AI so advanced that the Terran Federation could not have built it moved closer to awakening".

Nahrmann could come up with a sneaky way to trick the Key into disclosing some information that OWL could not get straightforwardly.

I don't think the overall story progressed enough to merit anything like that. Not to mention taking away from the actual story being told since the AI obviously didn't DO anything.

And every computer guru reading this book would have called foul on that immediately, just like Weber's description of "hacking" in Out of the Dark.

Seems to me he left rather a lot of those around way back in OAG when he tried to hack his way through to save King Harahld. ;)

I have to wonder exactly how forthcoming Mahafee was about that battle. He's had way too close a look at the Inquisition and what it's doing, how likely is that going to make it that he would admit to the fact that he actually talked to the "Demon Mab" and was injured in Mab's own words so that he'd have an alibi and that Mab had deliberately "promoted him in charge of this moving atrocity?" I'm thinking a simple, "it was very confusing, we fought hard but didn't see much" would be a lot less likely to get him made into a guest of that camp they are moving and not a guard of it.

We have a fair idea what the CoGA plan to do over the winter; raise new armies for the AOG and in Harchong, train another 1/2 million Harchongese along the Holy Langhorne canal, build Katyushas, consolidate positions and establish forward supply dumps, lots of internal plotting in the Go3. BUT we don't seem to have a clue what Our Heroes 'tm' are going to get up to. In a way this is almost the reverse of the end of LAMA.

What are Eastshare, Green Valley et al going to do all winter, sit on their hands? Surely not!

Aren't smokeless propellant rifle cartridges overdue? When we get them doesn't that mean Automatic weapons?

I somehow don't think it will take very long for certain people here to start speculating in detail!
