Peter answers one of the new names, but Nimue uses another for the shorter Seijin that is also Welsh.

Ganieda is Merlin's half sister in Arthurian legend and the last name, which I don't presently have before me and can't remember how to spell, is Welsh for something like "Shaded" or "Shadowed" so that short seijin's name means something like Shadowed Sister.

I'm sure this was discussed, but I don't remember and can't figure it out for myself, what does the name Chwaeriau mean? Wasn't able to find that one. And if I'm remembering right, Athrawes means teacher, right? And the Mab name is something like Avenging Son, right?

I was trying to total up what they all meant and not sure my memory is right ...

Athrawes is the feminine form of teacher, appropriate given although Merlin appears male, Nimue is a woman.
Dialydd Mab can translate as avenging son
Yr Alban is Welsh for Scotland.
Chwaer is sister in Welsh, iau is junior or younger; perhaps little sister
Ganieda is a sorceress / witch and Merlin's half sister; Cysgodol is shadow.
Dagr is dagger and Cudd is hidden

Merlin Athrawes = Merlin the teacher
Dialydd Mab = Avenging son
Nimue Alban = Nimue the Scot
Nimue Chwaeriau = Nimue's little sister
Ganieda Cysgodol = Shadow Witch or Shadow Sister
Dagyr Cudd = Hidden Dagger

Diolch yn fawr iawn

Iorwerth,

I am up to page 240 (ish) and so far you covered the names I came across... Thank you 1,000,000

If there are others, Please let those of us who lost touch with our Celtic roots and the language that our ancestors spoke. Although mine were from Scotland and Ireland and I guess there could be some Celtic mix in the Swedish what with all the <<ahem> > blind dates with the girls from the other side of the North Sea  back in the days of the Vikings.

Again... thank you this is fantastic!
Does any part of the name Merlin used when he went to visit the Army of Justice have any hidden meaning?
