If I'm looking at things correctly, the MA is a long term, highly thought out project/organization that effectively derives from the ideals at least of the Scrag (losing?) side of the Final War. Just as a random thought, could there also be a sneaky, conniving, uber-paranoid outfit running around out there that supports the theoretical ideals of the other side of the Final War? Opinions, Please! :D

They could be the outermost (and mostly clueless) members of the "parfait", which is good and also has layers. But perhaps there is a very deeply hidden, very small group that over the centuries has been working to oppose what the MAlignment intends to do.

I'm thinking on the level of the Second Foundation, or the Arisians of Doc Smith...operating deeply behind the scenes.

Maybe not; but we'll see.

I'm not sure how much ideology there was on the other sides of the Final War, or that the Alignment really can be said to represent a Scrag side. They're certainly not Slav supremacists. They have in common with the Final War Ukrainians that they think humanity's best future lies with genetically modified humans created with an ideal of general perfection, but that's a big umbrella and most people under it will be as vigorously fighting one another over "details" as they would be opposing people outside the umbrella.

But yes, as noted, the Alignment's goals have had other forces arrayed against them for centuries, as embodied in the Beowulf Life Sciences Code and that ethic (most represented by Beowulf) that genetic modification is for correcting uncontroversial disabilities or problems and for adaptation to specific environments, rather than for general perfection (whatever that may be) or for specific roles or functions within a society. Ultimately, it's thoughtful, pro-active anti-racism.

That doesn't, however, call for any secret cabal, probably because the vast majority don't get screwed under that plan. The Detweiler Plan, by contrast, will call for the vast majority to be genetic dead-ends, possibly sterilized, and certainly dominated by their genetic "betters". You can't sell that openly and honestly in public.
