So...at the end of HFQ is a list of archangels, and a description of the major archangels. One of them includes the archangel Andropov, archangel of fortune. His order is apparently in charge of fancy dinners and horseraces.
We haven't seen anybody swear by Andropov, or seen any priests of the order of Andropov. So...is he really as marginal as he seems? On the other hand, By the description, Andropov is in charge of entertainment, and you have to be pretty organized and good at logistics to manage a horserace or a casino. Actually, do we know what Order DuChairn belongs to? Is he a Chihirite? Or...is his patron Andropov? |

Well, the Safeholdians should be gratefull, that he isn't the Archangel of labour discipline...

Oh well, if shortening the front is what the Germans crave, Let's shorten it to very end - the length of Fuhrer's grave. (Red Army lyrics from 1945) |

Duchairn is a Chihirite, of the Order of the Quill specifically. Andropov does indeed seem to be marginal. From this, my best guess is that Andropov IS actually marginal. Don't over-think. |

Remember what RFC mentioned a long while ago. The Church of God Awaiting was supposed to be a planet-wide government, with the various great orders serving as arms of that government. Langhorneites are the lawyers, Bedardists are the psychologists, Pasqualites are the doctors and so on. Between them they cover a wide range of government functions - functions which they regulate - and so its no surprise that gambling establishments are regulated as well. After all, the big problem of gambling is always a social one - All those people who blow their money away on games of chance and getting into debts with the wrong sort of people (to the detriment of their families as well). It would make sense for the "Archangels" to want to mitigate this potential source of social problems by having gambling permitted but heavily regulated. In the world of Safehold, any gangster would find it hard to say no to a churchman when said churchman demanded the access to his establishment that the Holy Writ entitled the church to (and the cut of the profits - I'm sorry, "tithes"). And under such circumstances, anything beyond a friendly game of cards for the lower classes (upon which said gangster could prey) would not be permitted.

I always figured baseball umpires were members of Andropov's order.
Either Andropov is a little of DW's humor, or we will find that he was made an arch angel that played a very significant role in the War of the Fallen. |

The people who help provide Morale & Recreation are very important. It only seems like their work is less important than that of others. These priests are likely the ones that come into contact with 'regular people' the most often and as such have been on the front lines of the 'hearts and minds' campaign for years. Of course, once the head honchos appear to go insane, there isn't anything that the 'nice guys' can do to make things better. I honestly think that they are low profile, not low importance. |

Andropov's luck was spoken of in LAMA, the commander in chief of the COGA's forces (the duke HARLESS), didn't wan't to aknowledge the fact that "Andropov's luck" had turned against him and was willing to throw in an "all of nothing" strategy with his troops lifes at risk.
Maybe be the Church top priest is from Andropov and he will used it to come out ot the shadows... Who knows ? Can I have a treecat RFC?

Given the corruption level of the church, how could we be sure there isn't people whose proposition's "you could not refuse" (said with an italian accent from the 50's), in the casinos or horsetracks ? (the horse head incident's ?) Maybe the church priests are the mob in this case... Can I have a treecat RFC?
