I sort of like the theory, the gababa is a race that was enslaved by other more advanced race. They managed to rebel and eliminate their masters, but only were able to keep doing what they were taught to do. This explains why they do not advance they are only able to do what they have always done. And they are out to prevent any other race from advancing and enslaving them again. (Yes a variant of the Stargate universe)

Actually, it turns out the Gbaba are sentient.
The problem was that they mistook Yo Gabba Gabba! for racist propaganda and opted for xenocide. |

I read most of these books from our library, so I don't have them to do research on. Perhaps someone here can refresh my memory on some info about the Gbaba.
1. How did they get the name? Is that something the Fed just decided to call them? Or did we capture 1 or more and interrogate them and they told us? 2. How will it be any different when we meet the Gbaba again? I haven't seen anything whereby we have any new ideas on how to combat them? 3. How are we sure that we can even advance to our previous level without attracting the Gbaba before we're ready? We're going to need things like electricity, nuclear fusion, space craft, etc. and I wouldn't think that we can just hope the Gbaba won't spot us. Granted we almost defeated them before, so we may not need to advance too much beyond where we were, and I guess they found us because we intruded on their "space". Still, it seems like a wish and a prayer to just think we'll be safe until we decide to tackle them. |

Safehold will have much better technology than the Gbaba. The Gbaba will have nearly the same technology they had last time they met humans, and will be in nearly the same volume of space. I haven't seen anything whereby we have any new ideas on how to combat them? Those will have to be invented. The Gbaba won't spot us because they're a long ways away and aren't especially looking for us. ~Tonto |

Wasn't GBABA an acronym for "Giant Bad A$$ Biker Aliens" or something like that? .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

Given the Gbaba's insularity, I think the plan was to rebuild to TF tech peak staying within Safehold's system. After another century or two of research and advancements beyond that, they were to cautiously scout and colonise other systems on a full war footing, focusing on resource extraction and construction.
The library in Nimue's cave and the limitations of lightspeed emissions. With full records of how Earth developed and the various technologies, they can fast-track the restoration, going from Charis' mid 1800s to the 2400s in perhaps 100 years. And who's to say they won't find new tricks along the way? They also won't send massive radio signals into space like Earth did in the mid-late 1900s. The Gbaba attack came sometime in the 2300s, suggesting a 300 or 400 light year range from Sol, although Terran explorers may have hastened the detection. From where Safehold is, who knows? There'll be a window of vulnerability when they're colonising other systems until those systems are all built up and wildly productive. If they're lucky, there are a lot of habitable and rich systems within 50-100 light years. If they're smart, they'll minimise interstellar travel and communication - essentially each system will have to independently carry on with building their infrastructure, putting it to use and going to maximum-rate production on defensive fortifications and military vessels. All of the latter would be hyper-capable, but will never cross that barrier until the inevitable occurs and they are needed. Once they cross a certain quantative threshold, the Gbaba are doomed. It would be better for the Terrans if they were able to launch a surprise attack instead of waiting to be detected again. |
