DEFINITE SPOILER

I then signed in to my Amazon account and got to Page 87.

Then I clicked on "Surprise Me" and got the equivalent of Snippet #29!!! As those of you who are up to date on the snippets would know, we got the opening lines of "Chapter XIII", set in a Milliner's shop.

Curiously, that chapter is now headed as "Chapter XIV", which leaves me wondering as to what other little surprise may have been slotted in somewhere.

What I was able to read was pages 161 through 165 and an interesting tale unfolded. Suffice it to say that another of our horde of mysterious seijins is making contact with someone in the SSK network and is asking for a meeting with another high level contact who happend to be a retired member of the Temple Guard.

Curiouser and curiouser, said Alice.

Now that I have had my snippet fix, I can possibly hold out until my copy is due at Minotaur's on the 13th. I couldn't possibly give you any new spoilers, though!

Actually, having done some backtracking, I think the error is in the snippets posted here. Two chapters are listed as Chapter V in the snippets and since Tor issues electronic copies in mobi and epub formats (which include chapters), they corrected the error.

Amazon.co.uk is not even putting up preview text yet. Have not tried other countries, suspect it's the same of up to page 47 at best.

Did notice there is over 100 pages of glossary/people at the end of the book. Would like more detailed maps (fold out maps!) but meh, it's still good stuff.

I only got the first 47 pgs as well. I do have an Amazon account just not a Prime account, plus I haven't ordered anything in a while. I wonder if either of those makes a difference.

I won't brag about how much I got, but I do wonder OGO, if any shipments have arrived yet at B&O locations around the country?

No doubt you were!

At least I had the satisfaction of getting one more snippet than most of you AND typing it out  AND finding out SOMETHING INTERESTING.

Incidentally, running through the character tidbits (as much as the preview would allow, of course) showed a few unpleasant sounding events in store for some as well.

Apparently the Inquisition figure out that there were multiple strings to Aivah's bow.

Long live the Fist of Kau-yang.

Not a spoiler... That's already in LAMA. Only I thought it was hand of Kau-yung.

I want to thank you forumites for the tip, I was able to spend several hours reading parts of the book almost to the end. It might be a help that I am a Prime member and pre-ordered.

In the Glossary they are counted as two different units.

SPOILER

The Hand are the units in Zion, we've already seen them in action. The Fist are part of the Helm Cleaver arm of The Order of Saint Kohdy.

I'm not going to add any spoilers, so feel free to read this post...

I logged on to a friend's heavily used Prime account using the Firefox browser and was able to read (with all the really GOOD parts omitted) to page 268. I'll clearly have to start from page one when I get the book, since I noted a few scenes that I don't remember being in the snippets. Plus whenever the action got particularly interesting, inevitably the next few pages were omitted!!!

I don't know if someone planned it that way, or if the pages are omitted randomly, but since all of the really exciting parts that I was drooling to read were miraculously omitted, I sense the hand of an incredibly sadistic human. (I wonder if RFC picked the parts to omit?) ;)

Had we gotten another couple of snippets, we'd have come to hate the Inquisition so deeply that we'd demand it be obliterated from existence as part of any peace talks, and that every inquisitor suffer the fate Charis has decreed for them. The preview (on my Amazon account, not my friend's Prime account) ended with a cliffhanger on page 165 that would have made RFC proud. (If he didn't pick that exact spot to omit the next few pages himself that is!) The good parts that came shortly thereafter using the Prime account were also omitted, so somebody is toying with us! (I'm looking at you RFC!)

I didn't read any of the List of Characters, since if something bad is going to happen to anyone, I want to read about it in full as it happens, not find out about it by reading an obituary or hospital report. I inadvertently found out about Nahrmahn's return by scanning the preview of LaMA, which ruined the surprise for me. I'm not going to do that sort of thing again.

All in all, I'm surprised by some of the twists and the out-of-the-box actions the plot is taking. The battles are looking to be more difficult than it appeared they would be - but we've seen that coming for quite a while, so it's no surprise. Since there weren't any really major battles before page 268, I'll just have to wait to see how the new weapons on each side work out. (Although the description of some of the new weapons on both sides was omitted.)

Frankly, the book could have been snippeted all the way to page 268 and we wouldn't have gotten to the big stuff, although the based on the context some of the omitted pages must have been really entertaining!

At this point the cover still doesn't make sense though!

"Oh bother", said Pooh as he glanced through the airlock window at the helmet he'd forgotten to wear.
