Now that's an entertaining fantasy. Hm ... how shall he die, I wonder?
I liked the earlier proposal to simply put him in an asylum and not taken seriously at all. Honestly though ... my favorite version would be a swift bullet through the brain, then put him in an unmarked grave and be done with it. After all the time taking himself too seriously, all this excessive arrogance ... I think making his death unremarkable and insignificant would be the greatest insult possible. It also would have the nice benefit to steal any kind of propaganda value from his surviving sympathizers. No last justification of any kind. Furthermore, once this war is done, a counter-atrocity - no matter how deserving the target - would be the last thing needed for the continental reformation. So ... an unmarked grave for the Grand Fornicator, a swift public trial and execution for the big fish in the GF's regime (can't sweep it under the carpet, but don't make too much of a show out of it) and less public trials and executions for the other real baddies. Might be wrong though. Maybe GF will get beaten to death by pink space hamsters. You never know ... |

I suspect that while it would be better an more humane for him to die quickly.
I suspect he will get the "punishment" by reformist mobs in Zion who haven't yet learned enough of Maikels Tolerance. just a guess though it will be interesting to see how DW plays it out in the end. |

Alternatively, SLOWLY, MESSILY and PUBLICLY would seem to be appropriate. I know that "Charis" has renounced the "Punishment of Schueler" but human ingenuity should be well able to come up with something that satisfies my criteria. something of the line of "Hung, Drawn & Quartered" or, as W.S. Gilbert put it "Something lingering, with boiling oil, or was it molten lead. The details escape me but quite excruciating, I do assure you". (The Mikado, in "The Mikado" 1885) |

There seems to be five basic ways being discussed.
#1 In a public venue using suggestions from the Book of Schuler after public trial. #2 Killed by a rival from the Go4. #3 Direct action by EoC, RS, or an associated group. #4 Heart failure (during a fit after getting bad news, while involved in carnal activities, etc.). #5 In prison after capture and public trail. (Could be suicide or old age.) Our favorite celery chaser will choose the one that fits his story needs the best. But that will happen only after numerous head fakes to throw us off. My personal vote is for the Grand Inquisitor to go the way Reichsmarschall Hermann Georing did, by committing suicide in prison. (Admittedly that was the night before he was to be hung for war crimes.) Now I am probably going to have to wait for years to find out if I am correct or not. Bummer. |

There's a quote, maybe Heinlein, to the effect "The tyrant fears the jester's laugh more than the assassin's bullet".
Before or instead of killing him, get the phrase "Grand Fornicator" to go viral or come up with a still picture as memorable as _The Great Dictator_. Much harder and maybe impossible, have a group of traveling performers put on a show about Clyntahn, getting tips that are always eerily correct about how to stay ahead of arrest. The reaction to pursuing the players won't stop Clyntahn, of course, but it will damage the Inquisition's reputation to be seen as afraid of homeless actors. Imagine the editorial cartoon OWL could post about that. Then watch the Inquisition try to counter the effect. "Do not think about the play 'The Great Inquisitor'! Watch your thoughts every minute to purge it from your mind! Completely ignore the fact we're charging across the countryside to suppress it!" will work even less well than "Don't think about a purple elephant". Discrediting him serves Merlin's goals better than killing him. |

How shall the Grand Inquisitor Die?
I recommend, for your consideration, the death of Herod the Great. ~Tonto |

Had this been the real world, I would have expected Clyntahn to suffer either a heart attack or a severe stroke at the news of the Church forces' collapses. However, that would be too anticlimactic and ignonimious an ending for THE arch villain of such an epic saga. As such, I suspect that Clyntahn will arrest Duchairn at some point on charges of heresy and whatnot, and then proceed to have him tortured to death on the Plaza, only for the lower class spectators to erupt in outrage when their champion is brought out into public in chains. At that point, Clyntahn might very well become a victim of the riot - still an ignonimious death, but plenty dramatic enough to satisfy every fan, and more importantly, the author himself.
