Since when did MA come to mean the Mesan Alignment? I seem to recall it meant the Manticoran Alliance. Or is the assumption that with the Grand Alliance the Manticoran Alliance is less relevant?

You kind of have to guess from context when just 'MA' is used. That's why I and some others use 'MAlign' instead. (with the deliberate double caps,) .
. . Answers! I got lots of answers! (Now if I could just find the right questions.) |

MA started being used for the Mesan Alignment on this forum about five years ago. For a couple years, there was an attempt by some people to promote the use of MAlign and reserve MA for Manticoran Alliance, but it failed. For the last three years, MA has usually meant Mesan Alignment. As for the current status of the Manticoran Alliance, some have suggested that it doesn't exist any more. It was an alliance explicitly against Haven, and with the creation of the Grand Alliance that is irrelevant. --------------------------------------------

It largely disintegrated under the High Ridge government. |

I haven't seen a huge preponderence of people using MA instead of MAlign or (occasionally) MAlignment. That may just be the threads I look at, though - I've quit looking at threads that don't interest me. |

Now that they've pulled out of Mesa, we also have to distinguish between them and that 'M' also, so I just go with the single-cap 'Malign'. ----

Is obvious the MA is not the MA and that in the future they will become the RF, probably when they declare themselves to the SL who will be at war with the SEM, but only DW knows the details about that. Clear? P.D. I #"!#"#!"# hate abreviations, i don't understand why you yanks are so obsessed with them. Or should i say IDUWYYASOWT?. |

Erewhon was the only member of the Manty Alliance that withdrew from it. I'll admit that High Ridge's policies put the alliance under severe stress, but saying that it disintegrated takes it just a bit too far, wouldn't you say? |

No, Talbot and many other smaller members of the MA pulled out as well, due to High Ridge's policies and Haven's political maneuvering. ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |
