FYI: I'm currently about halfway through Midst Toil and Tribulation. I was going to wait until I'd finished LAMA to post this, but I didn't want to lose the thoughts I'm having now in the general hullabaloo and inevitable storm of tears. So, here goes:
* Yes, I love Cayleb and Sharleyan exactly as much as everyone predicted I would. (Which is a lot.) * Either I'm totally blind, or Zhasyn Cahnyr and Aivah Pahrsahn are totally in love with each other and refusing to admit it. * Speaking of: Irys and Hektor. * I want to marry Maikel Staynair. If I can't, someone else should. HE NEEDS LOVE DAMMIT!! * The good Earl of Thirsk bears a few too many similarities to one Thomas Theisman for me to believe it's entirely a coincidence. * I want to put Sharleyan Ahrmahk, Eloise Pritchart, Elizabeth Winton, and Estelle Matsuko in the same room and watch the fireworks. * Re: above, the entire Charisian Navy and John Chandler Simpson. * I want to give Rhobair Duchairn a freakin' ginormous hug. * I also kind of want to marry Greygor Stohnar. Or at least give him a ginormous hug, too. Just... that poor, poor man. * Nahrmahn Baytz is a treasure of treasures and I adore him and I adore Ohlyvya and they're perfect and I want more of them please. * Zhaspahr Clyntahn has officially joined the Detweilers and Cordelia Ransom on my "flay them open until they're bleeding like a stuck pig and then pour on the salt and vinegar" list. * You were talking about when I was going to start the cross-'verse shipping? Three-way with Baron Seamount, Sonja Hemphill, and Shannon Foraker, please. * Also, Abigail Hearns and Paityr Wylsynn. Or Maikel Staynair. Not picky. * Have I mentioned that I want to marry Maikel Staynair yet? * I can't wait to see how the whole Irys/Hektor thing plays out. Irys is my girl. I love her so much. * I want Sharleyan's wedding dress. Just on general fashion principles, you understand. * I bawled like a child when Bryahn Lock Island died. * Hektor Aplyn-Ahrmahk is officially my favorite. (Except for Maikel Staynair.) * And finally: I AM SO GLAD I DECIDED TO READ THIS SERIES. ~*~

Hi Roseandheather. I mostly lurk in Honorverse, so I know you're active there. But welcome to the Safehold forum. Glad you decided to start reading this series. My advice is to keep going, the further you get, the better the series gets. And lets face it, when was the last time RFC wrote a bad book?

Hi RoseandHeather,
Welcome to Safehold. Your general love of novelty will probably get you into trouble with the inquisition. But don't worry. The rest of us will protect you... Don When any group seeks political power in God's name, both religion and politics are instantly corrupted.

I have never been able to connect with that one, either. But, so far, it's the only one! Dan |

There is certainly a lot of affection there, at least. Most of the Empire of Charis loves him. Not THAT way - mostly - I think. But still, love. And if God exists in-universe, Him too. (Presumably not that way either.) There's a certain strand of forum opinion that puts him and Thirsk both in the bad guy column, figures they've got death coming, and is looking forward to it. I don't concur, but there you go. He may be too excited to pick their brains about 22 centuries of progress in weapons to get to any of the nekkid stuff. Abigail is young enough to be his youngest granddaughter. That's going to matter to him. What, really? |

I LOVED Out of the Dark... and I am eagerly awaiting the sequel. Before you ask, I did see the end coming. RFC did toss out a LOT of hints! ( I have to admit, I have loved vampire lore since I was a child. ) |

Your OPINION is that 'Out of the Dark' is the only bad one ... PUBLISHED! Grant you, it is one of my lesser MWW favorites BUT like some of RAHeinlein, even the lesser works are superior to much of the 90% drek published (HT to T.Sturgeon]. On the other hand, who knows what lurks on the storage at the Webber manse? Many, if not all, authors have some truly questionable pieces that their own filters or that of the publishers have said ... NO! The unfortunate thing is that they persist as the runts of a litter still loved by their father. Then, post mortem, they appear with the author's name attached to claim the hunger for just one more work. Live Long and Prosper MWW, PLEASE! -----

glad you are enjoying safehold series.
I admit when it first came out I was unhappy as it was a bit too much Heirs of Empire but with some twists but it has grown from there and is now one of his best series. still waiting impatiently for the sequel to Path of the Fury, the rewrite and expansion into In Fury Born just made me more impatient |
