The biggest problem with the Scotty-Shannon ship is that she's in a secrect base in the Haven sector and Scotty is commanding a CA Division in Talbott; talk about long-distance relationships...

So...I'm re-reading the Shadows books and am just finishing up Shadows of Freedom and...Mackenzie Graham is a pretty young woman, helping to lead a revolution, and with the message going to Montana, it is quite possible Captain (SG) Tremaine will be sent to Seraphim to support the revolution there and of course he'll meet her and....

At least the romance puts the protaganists in the same general space.

IMHO as always. YMMV.

I'm still rooting for ginger lewis, though like Shannon she suffers from being @ bolthole plus they are similar rank.

Scotty isn't the puppy he was back OBS but it still takes a lot of Chutzpah to chat up a Vice(?) Admiral, especially one from a navy who has only just stopped throwing laser heads at you.

now Rafe Cardones I could see making a move on Shannon admiral or no. While technically he's only a captain of the list he's been Honour's flag captain since her return to active duty during the cease fire. Gives him a certain weight beyond his rank.

Rafe should be due for a promotion by now. I'm surprised he didn't get one during the python lump, when Home Fleet was reconstituted after BoMA. He's also been in finishing school as Honor's flag captain for quite a while now. It's time to give him a division or squadron and find a greener skipper for Honor to start grooming.

Yeah, The moment any member of Honor's Flag Staff is promoted and moves out into the fleet - I can practically see a bidding war over each and every one of them. I can see Sir Lucian sitting down with each one and saying "I'm having an issue choosing your next command - everybody is requesting you...."

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

lol nice work guys

who would take over as flag captain when Rafe finally gets his flag?

Scotty is about the only one left of the survivors who isn't already an admiral and command track.

It doesn't have to be someone who had served with her before. An "outsider" can make it in, like Andrea Jaruwalski.

Scotty isn't the only one not yet a flag officer. There was an Ensign Arlene Wolversham detached from the ship as Venizelos' second in command for the customs inspection teams at the terminus. Last seen as a DN's ATO way back in 1904, before the war began and hasn't shown up anywhere since. She might be dead or already a flag officer, however!

The Problem might be, that the manticorian Navy has some officers that can promoted to commodore or Admiral, but a Flagg officer Need ships he/she can command, and after the lost of Vulcan and Hepheistos they are a Little bit out of ships!

After the Battle of Manticore A, there are a lot of "dead man's shoes" to promote promising officers into. After the Python Lump, there are plenty of ships. There won't be any new ships for a couple of years, but there won't be very many candidates for flag rank after the "dead men's shoes" are filled.
