I've been thinking, what kind of jobs could treecats do in the RMN aboard ship. The best I could come up with was a sort of Jack-of-all-trades. Because the 'cats would be so good at several jobs. But I think it would be best assign them to hydroponics for there day to day assignments. But rotate them through other jobs so they don't get bored. These assignments could include working with the ships Bosun, Master at arms (ships police) and the like. They could also be assigned on an add needed basis to the CMO, Marine/Navy boarding teams, Tactical Officer for prisoner interrogation, combat SAR, Moral Welfare and recreation e.g. being adorably furry.

Interesting saber. Your post made me think of Deanna Troi's position as ship's counselor aboard the Enterprise. She could not read minds but she was also an empath. A treecat could be placed on deck to ensure that Snotties who are uncharacteristically terrified get counseling. And they could help ensure that potential Steilmans are nipped in the bud. Only because of this post of yours have I just now made the connection between Deanna Troi and treecats. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

Obviously the RMN needs a commissar on ships to detect thought crimes. |

I wonder how much dexterity treecats would have with small work Their hands would be smaller, and the claws would allow them to pick at things as we do with fingernails, only on a finer scale.
The best way to find out what they can do well would be to arrange trials for any interested treecats. There would be variations due to personalities also. Dumb mistakes are very irritating. Smart mistakes go on forever, unless you test your assumptions Douglas Hvistendahl

You probably want to read the Pearls on treecats, in particular this section from http://infodump.thefifthimperium.com/en ... ngton/26/1:
Also the entirety of http://infodump.thefifthimperium.com/en ... gton/261/1. --------------------------------------------

And to detect "thunk" crimes too - being there would be no statue of limitations. lol An aside: I fly out in two days to be married in Fuerteventura, the Canaries. My siblings and I own a flat there. It originally belonged to our parents who were married there as well. The place is so serenely beautiful. The weather forecast are highs of around 79 degrees all week, partly cloudy on Saturday. It's dramatically beautiful this time of the year. Wonderful! Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. I certainly would like to read "A History of the People" by Golden Voice. So there's one treecat with a job -- author.
There have been mentions of how treecats love the uncomplicated mind-glows of young human children. Hire them as staff for day-care centers. The kids will love it. Position a treecat at the door of your retail establishment, and shoplifting will cease to be a problem. I'd like to hire a treecat to ride my shoulder during negotiations to purchase a new car. |

I think there would be enough demand for treecats in jobs that make use of their empathic sense that there would be virtually zero treecats in any other type of job.
Empathic jobs would pay well, they're easy and normally not dangerous. Why would a cat want something else? If they want to do some other sort of activity work as an empath and do something else as a hobby. |
